Child Tax credit question

I know I'm being incredibly thick because I've asked this already and didn't really understand the answers....I will try again and provide more accurate info and hopefully one of you good people can help me.
In a nutshell; me and partner have made a joint claim for JSA (where we are a couple and only one has to sign on). Our business has failed. We have earned money this tax year but were unemployed and not earning as of 20 July. On the Govt website it looks as though our earnings to date this year will be too much to qualify, but surely if you're out of work and no longer earning you should qualify? We have two kids under 10.
We don't yet know whether it will be income based or contribution based JSA.
Are we going to also be eligible for CTC REGARDLESS of which of the two types of JSA we get? It will basically make all the difference in the world to us so please can you advise and keep it simple? My brain is so fogged with worry!
Thank you

What was your income last year and what would you estimate for this year?0

Also as I had said in your other posts, income based JSA will give you maximum tax credits.
Contributions based JSA is counted as income so whether you are entitled depends on the specifics.0 -
Hi our income last tax year was around 40k but this year so far it was 5400 only as business has failed and we only paid ourselves a tiny amount to get by. These figures are for us as a couple.
I've found out that we do get contribution based JSA.
It is so confusing to me!
The benefit helpline say we will get contribution based JSA of 114 p.w. The ctc line says likely we will get around 100 p.w. ctc.
Is that added together so we get around 214 p.w.? Or does one cancel the other out?
Neither helpline will comment on the other. Just seems mad. No wonder people get upet in benefits offices.Travelling hopefully 🏃0 -
Have you used the calculators online?
Turn2us/entitledto
Child tax credits shouldn't cancel out JSA no.
Try the calculators they worked well for me and near enough spot on with what I will receive.0 -

When you claim CTC you will probably be awarded nil (although it depends how many children you have/whether they have disabilities etc...) because it will be based on last year's income. You then need to ring them and estimate your income for this year and they will revise your award.
So if you have 5400 self-employment income + CBJSA for the rest of the tax year (Around 4,000?) that will be your annual income estimate for this year. HMRC will then add 2,500 onto that figure and that will make your income 11,900 for the year. If you are CTC only you should get the maximum amount for your circumstances. I don't know how many children you have to know whether £100 a week is right.
However, if you start working again before next April, you will most likely have an overpayment of tax credits.

Thank you all for replying. I have used the calculators on both sites and they gave totally different answers to each other! But it's good to know they are joined together. I will just pray we are entitled to both. Thamks againTravelling hopefully 🏃0
