So in your estimation advising a 19 year old to get a job is impractical?
I didn't say that suggesting getting a job was impractical, but it's no so easy for someone who's been suffering mental health issues for four years, who had to sit his GCSEs at the kitchen table due to anxiety issues. It's not always so straight forward.
I felt as though some of the replies were not particularly helpful when I was basically asking if there were any benefit run-ons as I know at 18, there are.. A simple "no" would have sufficed, not have people making me feel inferior for not having the foresight 19 years ago to know what was going to happen, or for not being in a position to save enough for a 'rainy day'.0 -
You don't need a diagnosis for a PIP claim. All you need is some evidence to support his claim. Take a look at the PIP descriptors and see if any of them apply to him. You need at least 8 points in Daily living/and or mobility for an award... http://www.focusondisability.org.uk/personal-independence-payment-PIP-assessment-points.htmlThanks, will look into that. At the moment, the people who have been treating him (camhs, and now his psychiatrist) all seem reluctant to label him with a permanent diagnosis - I think they're all waiting to see just how long term it is :-(0 -
To OP,
He can claim JSA as soon as the CB stops. Unless he has already on that date enrolled for Uni. He can claim JSA until his enrollment date.
If he has DLA or PIP he can claim ESA as soon as CB stops and can continue with ESA beyond the enrollment date. but must declare any student finance. see below.
Hi, I hope you know that an ESA claimant with PIP and on a full time course of education is not required to send in fitnotes. and they are automatically entitled to WRAG (I can't remember if WRAG is from start of claim or from 92nd day after payments commence.) but they must attend the WCA when asked to go. <<< This only applies once they have started the course of education, before that med3 would be required.toomuchinfo wrote: »I am in a similar position with my son but I am able to apply for ESA for him as he is disabled, but it still means that there have already been two weeks with no money for him. I knew this was going to happen though and have stocked up the cupboard and tried to get ahead a bit with my gas/electricity etc., and he has PIP payments, so is not completely without money.
I hope you find a way of managing.0 -
That's more like the amount we were expecting to see, not £3124. I'll remind him to log into his SF account to see if it says any more.
Good luck, it could easily be a mistake by student finance.
Actually you can log in as it is your income that is being queried. On your login there should be a letter about the discrepancy and stating what further information is required.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
