Telenor Maritime Network

Does anybody know where to find Telenor Maritime Network charges published, I used this on a cruise - P&O say they don't make any charges so can't tell me the rates and Talk Mobile say they merely charge me what the Maritime Network charges them. i can find nothing on the Telenor Maritime website that identifies their charges. Up until recently using texts whilst hooked up to the Maritime Network on P&O cruises came out of my monthly allowance - now they are charging at 35p per text irrespective of where you travel and therefor irrespective of how they route the text

I presume they are the “International” location in Zone 5 of the roaming rates.

Given Telenor are registered in Norway, and given the new rules on roaming when connected to providers registered in EU and EEA member states and territories, where does Telenor now sit in relation to charges for using their service?
Presumably, the fact their operation takes place mainly in international waters means the regulations don't apply.0 -
I suggest you look for International Maritime services on your tariff. Generally avoid using your mobile onboard a cruiseship or ferry. If you're near a port ensure your phone doesn't roam onto a ship's network in error as the charges are eye-watering, your network will be unable to help as you've not used their service.0

I would presume satellite comms systems would be excluded from the regs, and Telenor Maritime is satellite, same would probably apply to using something like Inmarsat or Irridium as well.====0 -

Don't the regulations only apply to terrestrial operators rather than satellite operators?0 -
Using a mobile on a ship will incur their ship charges, Their web site may help with the rates.
But it's always expensive!0 -
I'd go back to P&O; they must have a contact at Telenor who can give you these details. Personally I think they should be obliged to display the tariff on board ship and the costs always come as an unpleasant shock and it's usually the home network staff who have to mop up the mess.
ETA I've managed to find this online0 -
So in fairness and in pursuit of clarity the rate you are charged is down to your network. Telenor maritime charges will be listed as maritime charges in your network's tariff and these charges vary greatly (up to £5 per minute!). It is the consumer's responsibility, as ever, to ensure they know the charges that apply before they use the service. Personally I'd use it only in a dire emergency0

The roaming charges will be set by the mobile service provider - P&0 nor Telenor will be able to confirm. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Ian, I found this while looking for something else, satellite comms are excluded from EU roaming.Roaming while travelling by ship or plane
When travelling by ship or plane in the EU you can roam like at home as long as you are connected to a terrestrial (land-based) mobile network. If mobile services are provided via satellite systems, roam like at home no longer applies and you will be charged for non-regulated roaming services (no price caps).
