You do not have proof that the lights are faulty. In fact you have been told they have been checked and been found not to be faulty.
    What is there to pursue?
What proof do you have that your socket was not faulty?

The socket *melted*? You have a bigger issue if that happened, and certainly I'd be looking at the socket as a cause. If it overheated, melted, and arced that would have the same effect, but sockets simply have no right melting. Was it a cheapo extension or something?
  • What sort of plug was fitted to the lights (a fused UK 3-pin plug or a 2 pin plug that required an adaptor before being fitted into a UK socket?).
If a round pin plug was inserted into the socket then the contact area would be low and could easily lead to arcing and heating.

Have you had the melted socket inspected by an electrician? and if so, did they give a written statement saying that the lights caused the damage?
