USA Car Breakdown cover for non-rentals?

Hi,
We're shortly travelling to the US and are borrowing a car from a friend - Apparently their insurance covers us but their beakdown cover doesn't. In the (distant) past I'm sure that we could purchase insurance which would cover this on our trip but, try as I might, I can't find anyone that provides breakdown cover for holiday trips to the US for non-Rental vehicles - Has anyone else got any suggestions?
I suppose that it would be the same if we just bought a car out there which I know people do occasionally (especially for long trips in an 'RV') planning to sell it on at the end of the trip?
Thanks for your help!

Yes - You have to be resident in a US State and I don't want an annual policy, just for 2 weeks.Have you tried the AAA?0 -
We've been frustrated by this unavailability of breakdown cover, too. RAC and Nationwide include European cover on their policies.
I suggested that it was illogical not to have American cover, even if there was a supplement to pay.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
