Sky is offering all its TV and broadband customers a free film as part of the launch of a new loyalty scheme – but it's not enough in its own right to make it worth sticking with the giant in the long term...

A word of warning when selecting a film to buy & keep, do not select it via the Sky box as you will be charged (and good luck in arguing for a refund). It has to be done via a browser.

Thanks Megan, I'm a platinum member so got my film and free Sky Go Extra.

Edit: The films already on my Sky box but the Sky Go Extra isn't activated yet, neither is the channel 995 preview for Sky Atlantic. The FAQ's say 995 can take up to 72 hours to activate (why???) and it may apply to Sky Go as well.
  • Hi. Could anyone enlighten me to this please... If you've recently haggled a new sky tv deal, does that mean you won't be able to take part as you are technically still in contract??

I believe its based on the length of time you've been with Sky overall, so if you signed up 20 years ago you'd get the top rewards and if you signed up last week you'd get a free film out of it.
  • Left Sky for a bit earlier this year so guess will be at the bottom on the film only option.

That's correct and I think it has to be continuous service so as the post above says I believe they'll be out of luck.

The only way to find out is to join, it's free and there's no commitment. If you really feel hard done by call or live chat them and argue your case, you never know.

My Sky Go Extra became active in the early hours this morning so don't panic as it's not an instant turn on.
  • Thats great thankyou. Will give it a go this evening.

    Word of warning:
Followed the instructions in the email and chose my 'Buy & Keep' movie (Moana, £10.99).

Jumped through the many hoops to link my sky id to the sky store account and add my credit card details.

I now find that it has charged me £10.99, instead of being free.

Just waiting for a Live Chat advisor to find out what has happened

It appears that not all movies are free.... I entered my VIP gift code but haven't yet selected a movie. I can see, though, that some I can get free and some are chargeable.
There is a drop down menu on the sky store website "offers" tab. The last item is " VIP offers". On my account anyway....yours may differ.

Moana is not free for me.

I think I read somewhere that not all movies are free, when you get your code and poke around on Sky Store the items that you can get are already marked with an item price of £0.00.

Sky Store isn't always the best place for stuff, for example as I write this Moana is on Amazon for £6.99 DVD or £9.99 Blu-Ray, both cheaper than the £10.99 DVD only in the Store. The only convenience of the Store is you can watch it in HD on your Sky Box, but of course you have to keep your subscription up otherwise you'll lose access to the HD version.

Just looking at the Ts&Cs for this and you have one year from the date you redeem the code online to use it so might be worth saving if there's nothing on there you want at the moment - assuming/hoping they will update the options at some point...

    Now just need to remember!
