Friend never worked a day in his life

Post#5, the OP has said that he is claiming JSA, since being entitled to it, which for a person aged 26 is a very long time, particularly as they have never worked before.
"Yes he has been claiming Job Seekers Allowance since being entitled to it, I think since he dropped out of college."
Clearly I'm not awake yet! Thanks...
OP, if you want, you can tell him I started working in a supermarket and did so for a good 8 years, pretty much until I started my PhD. And I'm still appreciating the lessons I learned whilst working there! He certainly isn't too intelligent to work a job like that.0 -
Perhaps he might like you to help him pull together a decent looking CV. Even if the content is very poor. Actually having a CV is at least a start.
Where he then sends the CV is up to him.0 -
You don't need to do his CV for him. Teach a man to fish and all that...
Show him websites that talk you through doing a CV and give him a copy of yours. Get him to do one for himself and help him with feedback and suggestions. Show him job sites, suggest he goes to a local recruitment agency and suggest sending CVs with a covering letter to employers he's interested. Let him get on with it. When he doesn't get his 25k job he might be ready to talk about the reasons why and the alternative options.0 -
At the moment with his lack of skills and attitude, he's unemployable.
OP I suggest you suggest the 'start your own business and be your own boss' route to him. Maybe that might be enough to fire up some imagination and enthusiasm.Make £2025 in 2025

I agree that there's definitely something not right about this story.
There's no way the DWP would allow him to freeload off the taxpayer for years on end without so much as a CV to enable him to apply for jobs.
The OP has yet to explain how this benefit scrounger has managed to avoid applying for any jobs over the years despite receiving JSA.0 -

Not true. Might have changed, but when I worked for them real no hopers were just waved through, as were people who'd been violent. There are people who are so unpleasant to deal with that the jobcentre staff just want them in and out as quickly as possible.
I know people in their 40s who've never worked and managed to play the system quite nicely.0 -

That's really shocking, but does prove my own theory. Mr S and I retired from the RAF when we still needed 44 years (him) and 39 years (me) years of NI contributions in order to qualify for the full (old) basic State pension.
We knew we didn't qualify for actual JSA because we both had RAF pensions - but the financial advice was to sign on in order to plug the NI gap so we wouldn't lose a full year.
Unfortunately, there was no such thing as a 'NI only' claim - we had to jump through the JSA hoops, which included 'signing on' every 2 weeks. It was very noticable that when we walked into the job centre, a couple of the administrators made a bee-line for us. They later admitted that it was a nice break for them not to have to put up with a load of abuse.
We also noticed the ones who would scream and shout for 'their' money were pushed through the system without so much as a glance at their job seekers log.0 -

Assuming it's a genuine post, as someone else said, Mummy must be supporting him.0 -
Accepting that it is a genuine post, the OP is running the risk of emulating the mother and doing everything for this workshy waste of space. By all means point him in the right direction but, beyond that, leave him to get on with sorting his own life out.0

I have got no idea, and I guess his dealings with the job centre are between him and the DWP. Even if he was sanctioned for demonstrating a lack of effort then I don't think it would bother him so much as the money is nothing more than pocket money for him anyway since he seems not to have any other responsibilities.
It is funny though, recently we watched a stream of a professional gaming tournament and the prize was around $30,000 dollars, and he was talking about how great that would be to be able to win that type of money. I pointed out that if he worked even for a little bit more than the minimum wage then he would be earning that type of money!0
