Re the old/new egg thing, where this does make a big difference is with peeling hard boiled eggs - new laid will not peel easily whereas older ones will.

Some other chicken keepers I know spent a long time trying to work this one out, and the solution was to add a little vinegar to the water you boil them in ;)

In my pub they peel them first and then put the vinegar in to pickle them.:D
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

I've always boiled them the way my mother taught me, and it never goes wrong. Saucepan of FAST boiling water - eggs in (not straight from the fridge or they'll crack) - exactly four minutes on fast boil - straight out and serve at once.

EXACTLY the same as I was taught..and perfect every time :D

  • I put them in cold water, add a little salt and vinegar (apprently stops them cracking or if they do crack stops all the egg going wild and running about the pan of water), turn on the heat and forget about them! Usually when I remember they are cooked just how I want them so it must always be at the back of the mind somwhere.

Scientific timing at it's best! :rotfl:
