Re the old/new egg thing, where this does make a big difference is with peeling hard boiled eggs - new laid will not peel easily whereas older ones will.
Some other chicken keepers I know spent a long time trying to work this one out, and the solution was to add a little vinegar to the water you boil them in0 -

I've always boiled them the way my mother taught me, and it never goes wrong. Saucepan of FAST boiling water - eggs in (not straight from the fridge or they'll crack) - exactly four minutes on fast boil - straight out and serve at once.

EXACTLY the same as I was taught..and perfect every time0 -
I put them in cold water, add a little salt and vinegar (apprently stops them cracking or if they do crack stops all the egg going wild and running about the pan of water), turn on the heat and forget about them! Usually when I remember they are cooked just how I want them so it must always be at the back of the mind somwhere.
Scientific timing at it's best! :rotfl:"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

some people are soooo rude.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
