Council Wheelie Bins

Moved in to a my first house, and the existing bin is a slim small bin (suitable for the old lady who previously lived here)

When looking in to requesting a new bigger bin, the council want £20......but I thought that's why I pay council tax, for services such a waste removal. Would they rather me leave the bin bulging spilling on to the street?

Anyone got any tips or help?

    Buy the bigger bin.

If the lid doesn't close on our bins, they aren't emptied.

If your rubbish spills out onto the pavement, you might get fined.

Your council tax pays for bin collection not for supply of your bins. Other councils {mine included} will supply FOC bins but each council chooses how the council tax is spent.

Dont get a bigger bin and continue to use the slim one, learn to throw little away and reuse everything possible.

The only people that get larger bins in my area are households with 6+ people. We all moaned about it at first but if you recycle they're fine.

There are 5 of us and we don't even fill the small bin fortnightly.

I also have two in nappies!

Review what you are throwing out and recycle more.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Surely you're not buying stuff and just throwing it away though, are you?

That would be a bit silly even for me. Nearly everthing we buy eventually ends being thrown away, I've probably bought loads over the years.

Councils have had their central government funding cut by over 40% in the last seven years. They have also seen huge increases in costs for statutory services like social care. They are forbidden from raising council tax by more than a tiny percentage, so something has to give. Many things that used to be free are now charged for. Large wheelie bins may be one, green waste removal another; it varies from council to council.

Couldn't some of those things have gone to charity shops instead of the bin?
