Where to buy non-standard door sizes for a reasonable price?

Good evening,

I've just moved into an ex-council house which has a couple of doors that are non-standard size - the current doors in the house are taller/wider than the current UK standard door sizes that you find in places like Wickes.

Can anyone recommend a source for glazed internal doors to fit ex-council houses that won't break the bank?

Such a shame because I could probably pick up a nice enough regular sized glazed internal door for about £70-90 from Wickes!

It makes me wonder if I'd be better getting a joiner to come out and reduce the door frame size instead as a cheaper alternative?

Thanks!

It sounds like you have what is regarded as 'metric sized doors' Some houses in the 1960's and 70's went over to them, but not for long.

    Typically they are 726/826/926 mm x 2040mm

Many places do metric doors - B & Q, Howdens, Magnet Trade etc

Zither, why haven't you told us the sizes of the doors you are looking for?

    I feel shame :)

Haha it was because I wrote the measurements down on a piece of paper and left them at the office! I'll hopefully be able to pick them up tomorrow. However, from memory I think the width was 848 wide by 1980 high. any thoughts?

Thanks Phil - not sure these match the dimensions that I have. I think they are 848 *1980 - though I need to confirm these tomorrow. Thanks!

    1980mm is just on 78".

this is a standard door height. It sounds like you have standard doors that have simply been trimmed to fit. (most doors have to be trimmed to fit the opening)

Thanks Phil. Yes I need to confirm the 1980 figure tomorrow - not sure if I'm getting my measurements mixed up. But I'm pretty sure the width is 848 - which isn't standard? Unless you mean 8 cm has been trimmed off 926 mm? Don't want to waste your time so let me check my measurements and I'll come back tomorrow with a more definite answer.

I fitted a door in an ex council house recently which I could only find in that size in Selco.

    Hi All

Ok so I just measured my doors - I'm looking at door dimensions of:

    850mm x 1980mm

    And

    830mm x 1960mm

I just had a quick look on selco and couldn't see any that met these dimensions. At least from the width drop down menu.

What's the best way forward then in terms of fitting new doors into these dimensions?

    Thanks!

Thanks aleem. None of these fit my doors directly - are you suggesting that the max size one is cut down a little bit on top and bottom to fit my 830mm door?

Also how would I typically fit the more narrow standard (838mm) size into my wider 850mm door?

    Thanks!
