You'll lose the number, and get a broadband cease charge of about £35, courtesy of OR.
Why not just switch to Plusnet instead? They offer BT Sport, and are invariably cheaper than BT for the same network. And no loss of service.

No broadband cease charge on a working line takeover.

BT Sport have you factored in the new charge as of from 1st August ??

Personally i would price up what i want then call BT and see if retention's will match .

Yep, £3.50/month which is included in my calculations.

Will do, going to give them a call to see what they can do. It'll be a straightforward "this is what I could pay as a new customer, this is what plusnet is, make me a decent offer or I'll just switch to PN." Probably won't work but worth a shot.

I always found it better to not go in hard, because they'll just bin you off and try to make commission on the next person who falls for their first offer. If you make the right noises long enough then they are more likely to go to their best offer.

However as BT bought Plusnet so they didn't have to cheapen their brand by offering discounts, then I doubt they'll have permission to match it.

Plusnet billing is pretty awful though, they took a DD for line rental even though I'd pre-paid it, took a DD for line rental after I'd left and tried to refuse to refund my prepaid line rental when I left due to a change in the T&C. When pushed they got the dates wrong and came up a month short. I have so far got it all sorted apart from the final month, which has now taken 4 phone calls. It's coming up to a week since they last said they were going to refund me, so it's probably going to be 5.
