What are my legal rights?

I'm caught in a bit of a jam with a car manufacturer who are in the news a lot just now.
They have a lot of issues after trying to modify vehicles to comply with emissions test they were previously cheating.
My vehicle is now playing up and there is a dedicated phone line and case officer to try and rectify any issues.
This is going nowhere and today I told them I was going to seek legal advice as how I should proceed - the manufacturer has no solutions and is stalling.
They have said on the phone that because I am going to seek legal advice they cannot talk to me.
This seems unfair that they can be stacked to the gunnels with lawyers etc but I'm not allowed to find out where I stand.
I did not say that I am instructing anyone, surely there is a difference?

What is your issue with the car manufacturer?
Don't be vague - I assume its VW you're talking about.0 -
It's not unusual for companies to stop talking to you if you signal you're taking legal action/ advice. It's one reason why you shouldn't make the threat without checking your rights before doing so.
What is the problem you're having, is it related to the modification?0 -
Yes vw and yes issues after the modification.
So it's not one of my rights to seek legal advice?
Appreciate I probably shouldn't have said it but I didn't say I'm taking legal action against them I said I'm going to seek advice!0 -

Of course it is your right to do that, but they also have the right to choose not to speak to you. We are not a party to your conversations so we don't know what each side has said.
Is the modification the cause of the fault, and do they agree with this? You say it is going nowhere, what is VW's position (before things became less amicable)?0 -
You have played the legal card (possibly without first getting any advice as to whether that is the best course of action). And the company has quite rightly told you to crack on and do so, the call line will quite rightly not wish to prejudice any potential court case so has taken the sensible action of ending assistance. I suggest that you now seek a lawyer with relevant experience and expect to spend out some money.0

Just out of interest why did you get VW to carry out the emissions fix on your car?. As far as i can tell it's in no way compulsory and it provides no benefits to the user of the car. So i can't see why people would get it done?.0

You said your going to seek legal advice so it's no wonder they wont speak to you so go do that and seek legal advice.
Please tell us this forum is not the legal advice you are looking for? Carry through your threat and seek proper legal advice.0 -
Because not everyone is as well informed.
Actually I didn't want it done and asked them not to carry out any work on the car without my consent - they did it anyway, yes its not compulsory and its not a recall.Join the facebook group

bris - haha that is incredibly condescending was that even worth typing, it has in no way contributed, I pity the less hardened internet user that comes across people like yourself!
I had already sought legal advice and was initially told by said company to persevere with my current route. I was sitting at night and wondered if anyone had any feedback outwith the times of day I could communicate with a business!0
