I had one of these, dug it up because I thought it was a weed :(
Was sure it was a weed because I did not plant it.
It could very well be a weed. It's not actually mine. I'm trying to identify it for a friend.

Oh, there's my best thought out of the ring.:D
Beech leaves are arranged alternately on the stem.

The definition of a weed is a plant which has grown on its own where you don't want it. Lots of perfectly good plants sow themselves, just not always in the right place

I have even made £ from a plant which just turned-up.

:D it most likely isn't a weed, watch it be identified as a lovely plant and I got rid :o

I went through all the rubus I could find last night and I couldn't match those dark stems, but I think you are right with the family name.
  • Yes I agree Davesnave. After having a quick read, do you think maturity or a winter could turn the stems red?

'Fraid I've no idea. I seem to remember my old thornless blackberry having dark stems, but I left that behind at our last house. The new ones we have are other varieties and not dark.

A closer photo might help, but your suggestion is the best to date anyway.

I'll go and take a photo of Rubus "Chester", which has red stems and similar leaf pattern... Oh, and if I don't come back in five, the roofer (who is elegantly tossing bricks, tiles and lead) has succeeded in hitting me...

"Oregon" is similar, but the stems are less red...

Will edit in a photo ...

OK, I survived the bombardment... hunting down an upload site....

Aaaargghh... all the upload sites I can use for free have gone ...

Try just clicking on the link below...

Anyway, it's started raining, so I'm off to get the roofer off the roof before he falls on the pot plants!
