  • I know exactly how you feel but then you'd just end up either a) not being able to go to Australia or b) putting your spending back on credit cards! I have this battle with myself all the time - wanting to use my wedding savings to pay off my debts, but if I stick to my plan I have both. You can do the same :)

You're right, I will keep the money in the bank.

Now that we will have more than enough for Australia spends, instead of keep saving £1,000 a month like I have been doing I will send that money to the Lloyd's card each month instead. The balance is £3,800 so should be almost gone by the end of the year :T

    Received the insurance pay-out yesterday.

Not rushing to get another car, so need to spend £260 for a months train ticket.

Very tempted to pay off the Lloyds card, £3,800.

Would still leave about £5,000 in savings (plus the £6,000 I have in my ISA)

Had bit of a spendy day today

Currently have an iPhone 6 that I've had for just over 4 years, but about 2 weeks ago I dropped it on the driveway (my own stupid fault for trying to juggle too many things!)

As well as the screen being smashed I think the fall damaged the battery as now it wont charge properly.

So I phoned EE to see what deal I could get on a new one.

Getting an iPhone XR delivered next week, £45 a month

Not very MSE but I rarely get anything new, plus I prefer getting a decent phone and keeping it for years (target for this one is to have it over 5 years!)

After the 24 months will drop back to £10 a month sim only

I have done something good this month though, our mortgage is £791 a month but I phoned Nationwide and asked them to increase the direct debit to a nice round £800

So will be overpaying 9 quid a month, only £217,000 to go :rotfl:

Start of a new month on Thursday as its husbands pay day.
Got a list going of stuff I need to do/pay for:

£30 to clear my Next account
£27 on a kitchen bin (reduced from £50 on Amazon and we currently don't have one)
£20 on 2 new school jumpers (I definitely underestimated when I bought 2 originally, they've been washed to death already and he only started school 6 weeks ago!)
£57 for a haircut on Monday (haven't been for over 6 months)
£8 to have my eyebrows waxed (haven't had them done since I got married in June )

Also on Thursday will transfer £100 to my S&S ISA and £100 to the car savings account

Oh another couple of things to do:

Husbands wedding ring is a bit too big so needs to made half a size smaller, that's £50

Need to book an airport hotel for the night before we fly to Australia, need to be at the airport for 6am so would rather be there the night before.
The Premier Inn is currently £34 if I pay in advance or £48 if we pay on the day (might pay on the day actually thinking about it)

    Pay day!

So far I've sent £100 to my isa and paid off my next account.

Had an email last night from Scottish Power to say they are increasing our direct debit from December. Currently pay £59 and they're increasing it to £83!

Going to wait until next week after Novembers payment is taken, then our account balance will be less and I will see if I can drop it back down.

On Thursday husbands money went in, £1,798.

Since Thursday we have spent £941!

Of course I wondered what on earth had gone on, so I downloaded the online banking into excel and this is what its been spent on:

    Things £50 or above:

£300 DD to Virgin credit card
    £100 to ISA
£113 husbands mobile (VERY annoyed about this as its normally £50, I downloaded his bill and he made a few calls to Australia regarding our holiday :( )
£50 to have husbands wedding ring resized
    £55 food in Aldi
£53 DD to BT for internet and BT Sport (usually £38 a month but I changed the DD date so they added on the extra days)
£50 on a night out on Saturday (included a pub meal and drinks)

    Below £50
    £49 on petrol
    £30 Next account
    £3.97 on a McDonalds (that's me :o )
    £12 my mobile
    £35 haircut (me)
    £7.60 eyebrow wax (me)
£24 clothes for husband (Primark so nowhere expensive)
    £8.80 cigarettes (husband )
    £15 in Aldi
    £13 tobacco (husband, I don't smoke)
    £16 beers for home
    £5 in Morrisons
    £1.40 parking

Shows how quick money can go!
Apart from the smoking I don't think there's anything wildly extravagant that its been spent on?

I guess the good thing is £300 has been paid off the debt and £100 has gone to savings

I get paid tomorrow and all the direct debits will be coming out on the 1st and 2nd and one on the 5th, then begins the agony of getting to husbands pay day on 23rd November spending as little as possible.

I need a new pair of jeans as the one I did have I had for so long at the weekend they got a hole in haha, but will go to Primark first

Having a very bad week :(

My Dad was diagnosed with Prostate cancer on Tuesday, it has spread to his pelvis and bones.

    He is only 61

He is having a bone scan today to see how much it has spread. I am absolutely gutted.
