Bt have sent me a letter from their debt recovery team..

Howdy !
I moved home on November last year. I spoke to BT and the same as any other bill, I settled in full . I have my mail redirected.
This morning I receive a final reminder - you still haven't paid your bill
You owe us £35.11 and we need you to pay this straight away.
The letter goes on about registering me with crredit reference agencies etc. Transferring this to a debt collection agency etc where I would be expected to pay additional costs .

Question is, do I make a rod off my own back and call them, or fo I ignore the letter as I have moved from there last Nov ?

Thanks :)

If you ignore it the rod will be bigger!

IME, calling them was a total waste of time. First time the operator said they couldn't do anything and hung-up on me when I asked them to escalate the call.

Second time I got a right runaround before getting someone who claimed to have been able to sort it out but the threats kept coming.

Third time I was flatly lied to.

So then I sent the "prove it" letter from here to the MD and got referred to the "executive" complaints team in Belfast. Who were utterly unforthcoming on why I was treated like garbage and lied to by the normal call/complaints people as well as being about as much use as a chocolate fireguard over nuking the alleged debt, so I'm now considering my next move - which as they won't put-up and actually bring an action against me, will probably be a complaint to the regulator.
  • Thanks folks . Pogofish, sorry to hear about your situation .
I phoned up . I asked what the bill was for . Told it was because I cancelled phone and broadband . They claimed to have sent a first letter. This letter was a final one, because of the time elapsed.
I will receive a bill explaining this as I asked . The annoying thing is I always ask to square up asap , as I don't like nasty surprises. Guess what ? A nasty surprise . I know it's not the persons fault who I spoke to, but I did say obviously that I'm glad I'm gone from them and am now with Vodafone :) So, I paid up . Giraffe , you're right . The rod would've got bigger ;)

They claimed that for me too - as well as their having my "correct" address, contract and adequate but irregular financial details on file.

I'd kind of expect you won't hear anything else from them but more demands - I'm still waiting for the written confirmation that I was promised twice!

This sounds like an OR broadband cease charge, passed on by your ISP, but too late to be included in the final bill.
BT to Voda...the words 'frying pan' and 'fire'come to mind.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
