Bonfire was on again first thing this morning, feel sorry for those who hang their washing out before they go to work.
There's a funeral on at the church next door, and they have just done the long single bell peal. It was like a scene from a spaghetti western, with the bell ringing for doomsday as the (hated by the others) former stray swaggers down the steps to the patio as the two cats in the kitchen hunker down into into position to attack her as she comes in. Amused me, it went to mexican standoff and I had to carry her in to the disgust of the others who had cunningly blocked her.
Food shopping done, must get something out for dinner. It should have been quiche but DS1 ate it all again. Oh for his hollow legs and metabolism! My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Our neighbours were having a barbecue yesterday afternoon and I was worried my washing would smell chargrilled .

HHOD I hate the smell of barbecues.
Today has been a bit of a write off, blithely said yes to a windows update that promptly killed my laptop. Even forcing it to do a factory reset hasn't fixed it properly, need to buy a new flash drive to sort the issues out of that. Luckily I do regular backups of my stuff to an external drive, but the failed upgrade deleted my recovery points so nothing to roll back to. V frustrating.
Made another quiche for the boy, not much grated cheese left in the freezer now. Flattened chicken with salad for dinner in a bit. I'm on chilled (cheap) fizzy water with a slice of lemon rather than the nice cold glass of wine I would like. We often do that when we eat out too, order a large bottle of fizzy water to share which usually works out well.
I have the kind offer of a house/pet sitter for a week in the summer, hurrah. One who waters plants and adores cats and who has reliably covered a few times before so knows the animals and the house. Double hurrah. Only trouble is that means someone in the house, in the mess, when I can't just hide things in cupboards. The deep cleaning list will be of epic proportions.
Now waiting on OH confirming he can have that week off and then trying somewhere to stay and seeing what can be scraped together from the holiday pot. Hadn't expected to be able to get the house covered this year so hadn't really planned for this, but it may be a while before we get the chance again so want to go if we can manage without messing up the finances. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Parallel life moment - I live next door to a church and also have manic bonfire lighting people in the area, just when everyone's got their washing out. Isn't it illegal before 6pm?
Glad you've got a house/pet sitter sorted. I might moan about DD still living with us but she's good for that when we go away.
Finally - boo to the laptopI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Hi redo - great news on the holiday and reliable house pet/sitter.
And thanks for the bra link. I've saved it on my favourites as it looks very useful. I'm generally ok with bras - I've found M&S non-padded underwire fits me best. Now if I could only fit into the smaller pants like you.........
Hope poor old cat is doing a bit better now And the laptop issues sort themselves out. Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Another one who would like to fit into smaller pants
No idea what's going on with my weight as my work trousers are too big round the waist (particularly noticeable when I'm trying to get a microphone transmitter to stay put on the waistband) but my pants are feeling a bit snug round the tummy/hips. I think the flab has moved... and given the location could possibly be alcohol-related weight.
But the good thing about being in ANZ is that the food is fabulous and involves lots of fresh veg, salads, fish etc with Asian influences, so not the beige stuff I tend to see travelling in the US. And the new job allows time/opportunity to go out to eat and avoid hotel food - and my boss being a fitness freak means that making time for exercise is a priority while I'm travelling with him. I asked him yesterday whether he'd like to postpone his return and join me next week as he's a good influence from that perspective!0
