This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
Hugs for those of you who are going through difficult times.
Woke up at 5.00am again and couldn’t get back to sleep. I’ve had a cup of tea and surf of the net and am going to read now for an hour or so. It doesn’t seem to matter what time I go to bed I can still only sleep for four or five hours.
I had a lovely time at my brother’s yesterday with him, my DSIL and niece and nephew. My DSIL cooked us a lovely lunch of roast chicken and all the trimmings and even sent me home with enough left over for my dinner today and half of a cheesecake as they are going away on holiday today and won’t eat it. I feel a bit flat this morning though. I always enjoy the time I spend with them, but have to admit that I often feel a bit lonely when I come back to an empty house after being with them.
Anyhow, onwards and forwards as Judi says. I have a new duvet cover that I have just put in the WM on a short wash. It is the same as my favourite one which I had noticed at the time was getting a bit thin and when I put it back on the bed a couple of days ago I noticed that there was two small holes where the fabric had finally worn out, so now is the time to get this new one out.
I have to pop up to town to collect something I ordered from M & S this morning, and want to do that before it gets too busy. Also, I have noticed that M & S seem to be doing their reduced chilled food early at the moment so it will be an opportunity to have a quick look to see if there is anything that I need reduced.
I hope that you all have as good a day as possible whatever you are doing.0 -
Thanks for the thread HH, sorry you're feeling a bit flat.
Another non sleep here. Bed at nearly 1am awake at 5!
It's going to be a long day
Have a good day all and hugs to anyone who is in needx

Morning, another one awake early at 4.30 and I couldn't get back off to sleep so I came downstairs and made a pot of tea. I'm popping into the city for a few odds and ends this morning, not walking Cookie for a few days as they are away so whole days to myself (He Who Knows is away too) are somewhat of a novelty BUT as I found yesterday very l o n g! I've got Maisie doggie coming for the evening today after a nice walk with her and her mumsie so that will be lovely and I'm going to start sorting out my packing as the laundry is all up to date. It looks like it's going to be nice dry day out there, everything is up to date in the house and garden so I can go off and play with a clear conscience! Have a good day xxx.0

Morning everyone
Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, stuffing, new potatoes, carrots, HG broad beans, HG runner beans, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy - really enjoyed a proper meal but was full afterwards so didn't eat anything else for the rest of the day, have just enjoyed my porridge for breakfast, sounds boring but pleased to get back into routine. Not sure what dinner will be tonight but I have dentist first thing, then I'll be visiting the SM for some fresh supplies, don't want to spend too much though as I do have well packed freezer and store cupboard.
I will continue with the washing, did get some more washed and line dried yesterday, have a load ready to go out which I'll do in a bit when I go out to water the plants. I picked my first ripe tomato this weekend too, they now seem to be ripening, as always they will all ripen at once and we'll be overrun with them as I'm the only one in the house that eats them, but I'll be making a HM tomato sauce to freeze if need be. I need to give the kitchen a good sort out today, so will endeavour to do that - cupboard doors really need a good scrub as does the floor - I'm going to try to do at least one declutter/cleaning job a day this week as I'm still off on hols, so at least the week isn't wasted. If I can I'm going to also sort through the kitchen cupboards as I know I've got items that I don't use and are never likely too, they need boxing and getting rid of either to the dump or charity shop. I'm hoping to have a go at my bedroom and DS2's - his is a real pit.
Keep safe and well x

Good Morning everyone and thanks for the start off H/harvey.I am up and about most mornings early no matter what time I switch out the light and find I can get a lot more done first thing:)
I have so far stripped and changed my bed, and got a wash on the go.had a shower, and my first cuppa of the day.
Prepped some of todays lunch as I have my oldest friend coming to visit me from Dartford today.By 9.00 I will be out taking my library books back as they are due and will nip into the bank to drop off my left over cash from my food purse budget (New month tomorrow ) and will post my sis-in-laws birthday card.I will be back home by 9.30 waiting for my friend to arrive
I don't mind getting up early really especially when the weather is nice (it is bright sunshine here atm ) No matter what time i go to bed I have woken up early for years and when I was working I used to wake at 5.00.a.m. on the dotnow its near to 6.00 (old age I think
)
but then I have never been able to lie-in as some people do, when my eyes are open that's it I am up.
One of my DGS Ben can sleep as a national sport I think He is home from Uni at the moment and I rarely see him emerge from his pit until lunchtime Only one of my DDs sons take after me and that is henry he is also a wide awake lad and often texts me before seven to say good morning GranBut then I can have a 10 minute nap after lunch and then I have recharged my batteries and I am up and running again.
Well time to get a wriggle on places to go people to see . My late OH used to say I was a reincarnation of Alice's white rabbit as I am always rushing around:):) have a good day chums what ever you are doing ,enjoy it
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for the start. Don't give up hope you non-sleepers as it's not long ago I was one of you. I'm still not having the "perfect sleep" but it's a vast improvement on how I used to be - back up wide awake reading or surfing the net at 2.00 a.m. and waking up again at 5.00 a.m. No magic cure for it sadly or I'd make a fortune - it just sort of happened.
It's a lovely start here and the wind has dropped a little bit. I think there is rain due later this afternoon too. I never did get the weeding done yesterday - just CBA - so I'll aim for that job this morning! There's also a pile of ironing to tackle at some point but no rush for that.
Just been doing the end of month finances, These month ends do roll round quickly. The year is flying by.
Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Looks like a nice day in the making, its nice for a change as we have had nothing but rain since the kids holidays started.
Off to work for me and the start of my long week which I dread as I am shattered by the end of it, but not long now till our holiday :j
DD and I went to a baby shower yesterday it was pleasant sitting out in the sun, but the whole thing is just an excuse to take gifts, which I would have done anyway once baby was born without spending several hours with people I don't know playing silly games such as sniffing nappies, it is a very American concept and not one I am sure I agree with, I am aware that I sound like a miserable middle aged woman so I will shut up now :rotfl:
Pasta something for dinner with some salad, and the door man is coming to measure up either tonight of tomorrow.
Right I had better get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all and thank you for the thread Holly Harvey. Another lovely, bright morning here. We had a beautiful morning yesterday followed by a lot of rain yesterday.
JackieO I am the same, once awake I am ready to get up but I do tend to flag during the day. OK if I'm at home but not at work.
I'm working three days this week, then having a break of 2 weeks, I have to use up all my annual leave by the end of this month.Technically we can carry over 5 days but our quite new senior manager is not keen. Since we often work unsocial hours on top of the day job, I'm not very impressed. We have quite a few staff on sick leave, two on maternity leave and one about to go on maternity leave, several recent retirements with two more retiring in the next two months so things are a bit tight staffing-wise. So we all try, well some of us do, to cover what we can as we have to keep things going. It is an emotionally demanding job. I could go on for a while about the unwisdom of treating highly motivated professional staff in this way but will shut up about it. Anyway, I'm working late so have decided to go in a bit later.
I've just had some really nice toast made from homemade bread and a cup of tea, shower next. I might get up at the crack of dawn but I tend not to get ready for work immediately.
I hope that everyone has a good day and sending positive thoughts to those who need them.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Red ruby, we have had several baby showers for work colleagues recently, each time I have been 'busy or already booked' those evenings as I'd already given each person a personal gift and contributed to the office gift. I couldn't really afford a restaurant meal plus additional gift as well. I did feel a bit mean, if it was a very close colleague, it might have been different.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
-
REDRUBY I couldn't agree with you more about baby showers and all the other American money/gift grabbing ideas gradually being thrust on us. Trick or Treating is still my very biggest hate though! What's coming next? Bah!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
