Their system treats guest ciders as real ale - they work on the free drink with a meal. So this complaint is invalid, as you can have the guest cider...

I drink cider, that's how I know. Works with the "cider festival" drinks when they do it too.

There are so many vagaries in the Wetherspoon till system, that most staff wouldn't even know that, and in my experience of 900+ of their pubs you will not get a guest cider of the "bag in box" type on a meal deal. Every time I've tried it the till has charged me extra for the cider.

The filter coffee is made in a large pot and dispensed by the customer. Tea has to be made cup by cup by a staff member, and the cost of that probably prohibits free tea refills.

Exactly, but its not just the cost of the tea, its the time taken serving the refill in which that staff member could be serving someone else.

I am flabbergasted. If I were the OP I would find myself a new pub that does not discount anything and thus shield themselves from such injustices.

Oh! and as a heads up, stay away from M&S as they have a pizza meal deal on at the moment but no reduction on fishcakes: most upsetting :-(

It's the same with Waitrose and their free tea/coffee offer. No use to me because I don't drink either.

I accept my tastes are different from "the average" or "the norm" and find something more important to fret about.

I was going to suggest to the OP that they can write to Tim Martin using the contact details in the JDW magazine. But since they haven't logged back in since posting their (one) post, I won't.

I once tried to order a breakfast from Granny Wrights in Stoke. The breakfast included toast.
Could I have just a slice of dry bread is instead of toast?
A firm 'No' was the reply.
I was gobsmacked. All they had to do was not put the bread in the toaster.
Could I pay extra and have a slice of bread as a side order.
    Still no.
I walked out, but not before telling everyone that they were obviously using stale bread today, since they were too embarrassed to let me have a piece of untoasted bread!
I wasn't dealing with an assistant either, but the manageress! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
