OP, if it were me, I'd be seeing if I could get permission to move the right of access as exiled_red suggested.
I've already suggested thisbertiewhite wrote: »Is it possible to re-route the right of way so that it goes along the back of your garden instead of right outside your window?
But Davesnave doesn't seem to think it'll be that easy. Not without the agreement of the other party (ies) affected.
That might be an answer for some, but there's a legal cost to be paid, the physical creation of it, and no one's going to think walking further is 'better,' unless there's a pay-off of some other kind.
Looks like a non-starter here.0 -

Yes, but I'm as fallible as the next person!
It might work if the OP was willing to fund most or all of the change, which with the legals and the path laying, won't be cheap.
It would benefit both properties in the sense that many people would prefer it, but the neighbour won't necessarily agree, as she and her family are used to doing what they've been doing.0 -
Dig up the ROW, turn it into a mud pit, but make sure people can still access it. They'll get so sick of the mud, that they'll start using the front door, at which point you can turn it into garden again.
OR you could plant things that grow across the ROW, not blocking it, but making it a chore to use it.... Nobody like walking through long wet plants in the winter months.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If you don't want people walking past your house via a ROW, don't live in a property that has one. It's not rocket science.[/QUOTE]
And there's the reason I hate posting on these sites. :T
I was only looking for advice and I get flippant replies. I have taken on board all the comments, and have decided to leave things as they were.
This was my late mother in laws house and financially we are not in a position to move, not that I need to justify this to you.If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.;)0 -
Anyhoo, just to thank the rest of you for your advice and suggestions. We have since been approached by various members of the family (while they've been passing our back door
). They've said, that they're continually asking our neighbour if they could go through front door (even before we brought it up). They hate walking the long way round and find it embarrassing passing so close to the house, but she won't listen and in fact her grandson said today that 'she thrives on all this drama and will probably just do it more to annoy you unfortunately'.
On the upside, our fence is up which is giving us more privacy and the neighbour has also agreed we can lock gate at night. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.;)0
