I today put my laptop in System Restore following another dodgy microsoft update and it came up after a long time saying "System Restore did not complete successfully" I repeated it again and the same happened.

Why has this happened?

How do I correct it?

Is the any reason why this is so - is it case of microsoft disabling it again?

If so there must be a way to turn it on

System Restore's effectively depreciated in 10 in favour of the Reset/Restore options, the clue being by default it's actually off whereas in previous versions of Windows it's on.

The big Windows 10 updates tend to turn it off in theory to stop you ending up with a hybrid setup.

Ok how do I get "Reset/Restore options" and would that do the same thing?

what is a dodgy microsoft update? the reset option is not for getting rid of dodgy microsoft updates but for getting rid of any virus/malware or just for clearing out all of the junk that builds up in the system over time

Oh dear, it's moments like this you wish you had used Macrium reflect, created boot and clones and images.....

Or some other such method to ensure easy recovery.

Have you and if so maybe this is the time to use them.....and try and find out why you have had a problem? Just what was dodgy about the update?
