Fuming! Absolutely fuming!

Ok, so both myself and my husband have long standing health conditions and we get our prescriptions (quite big too) sent to our local Boots.
I've just called them and bearing in mind when I went to collect mine last week I was told that his was waiting for stock and should be ready Monday/Tuesday we were both quite busy this week so I have just called them! Basically he has 3 months worth including insulin which is kept in their fridge ready for collection.
I've just been told that they don't know where his other medications are and that the medication prescription was put in the fridge log.
So it is now 14:40 they close in 1 hour 20 minutes! We are talking about a lot of medication here and as I do our medication for the week on Sundays it's looking unlikely that it will be ready!!
I'm absolutely fuming! The young guy I spoke to kept saying oh this isn't good enough and he'll escalate it to the store manager! What the hell is the store manager going to do!? It's not likely he's going to roll his sleeves up and start dispensing what we need!

Sorry but I'm so angry!!:mad:

You might want to calm down a bit, getting this wound up is not going to solve anything.

Boots have made a mistake, and they're doing what they can to sort it out. Are they going to call you back?

For the future, don't leave collections until the last minute. Always have a few days supply in case there is any problem with the new script.
  • I am perfectly calm. This isn't the first time this has happened. Like I said I was told by the actual pharmacist last Sunday that they were waiting for stock.
I haven't left it until the last minute. Like I said it should have been ready Monday/Tuesday so theoretically it should have been ready and waiting today.

We are talking about a patient who has had a heart attack, long standing depression, pneumonia twice and type 1 diabeties.

Thank you for your advice though.

Yes, Boots made an error but I agree that you should not have left things so late. If you can't get the drugs and they are needed for tomorrow can you ask Boots to phone the local hospital or which ever chemist in your area is the emergency chemist?
  • But like I stated in the first post we were both really busy throughout the week so couldn't get to the chemist.
I really don't need after having both my health conditions and husbands conditions for such a long time. To be told we shouldn't have left it so late.
Thank you though I appreciate your advice.

    Its sensible advice though.

Mistakes do happen and once they have they take a bit to sort and often the person sorting the mistake is not the one who made it so they tend to respond to sugar better than vinegar (your post did not sound calm).

I have regular prescriptions, not unusual items, the pharmacy adjoins the surgery but there are still mix ups/missing items etc more frequently than I'd expect. When its their mistake, I leave it to them to sort and deliver to me but am never down to the last day's supply. Although it means a bit of wasted time for me and a bit inconvenient its not really a problem.

Understand your frustration completely at being let down but it really is unwise with important medication to let your supply get so low. Would you be better with a 'local' pharmacy that delivers maybe if you are busy and quite unwell?

if this isn't the first time it has happened, you should be moving pharmacies. Like you I have multiple serious conditions and require approx 15-16 medications (none requiring refrigeration fortunately.) I'm making arrangements for replacements some 2-3 weeks before current stocks runs out.

There are pharmacies that will deliver by post although I'm not certain that that is feasible with insulin - it may be prudent to leave that on to be obtained locally and get everything else by post?

I appreciate life gets busy, but your health really does need to be prioritised, dont you agree? it's what lets you do everything else!

Remember a pharmacy gets a hefty fee for every prescription it dispenses. They should be treating as you a valued customer.

My sister works in Boots. They are having problems with suppliers. It's been Ongoing for months, not just her branch but right across the company.

I have heard that other chemists are having similar issues.

Im afraid I have to agree with the other posters, when medications are crucial you need to ensure that you always have a few days in hand, just in case.

Most chemists do not hold large stocks these days and many items which were once held in stock do now have to be ordered in. And yes, maybe have a look at getting meds delivered. That might work better for you.

Well you left it to an hour and a half before closing time on the day you need the medications when you've previously had problems with drugs not being ready when you need them. I'd have said that was cutting things very fine myself for essential medications.

If you are getting 3 months worth of drugs at a time I'd suggest you should always be giving yourself at least a one week buffer with the pharmacist in case of supply problems or human error and if you also have busy lives then give yourself an extra week on top to ensure you don't run out again.
  • Ok so let's clear some things up. I have been off work coming up 4 months. I have severe Generalised Anxiety Disorder which basically controls my life. I come across sometimes a little angry but that is only because I have constant brain fog. I got very upset and anxious because of the initial phone call to Boots because I was frantic.

When I say I'm calm, it's my way of trying to deal with things otherwise they escalate like they did about 45 minutes ago.

I'm not trying to defend or justify myself all I'm trying to do is explain. Which I have just tried to do.

It's all sorted now, I have spoken to the pharmacist regarding my husband and myself and he is going to try and give our surgery and Boots themselves a kick up the backside.
