Great so its all in place, i just need to wait for the santander debit card number so i can convert it to halifax for that bonus (whatever it ends up being after tomorrow), and wait for the activation for the halifax online banking so i can make the 2 DD to the tesco accounts before doing the nationwide conversion part!

Think i get it all now!

    Almost.

You need to set up the Direct Debits on the Tesco accounts, not on the Halifax current account. Wait until your Tesco accounts are online & you can do it then.

Also, please consider making the DDs for more than £1. There are many of us using this facility and it would be a shame if Tesco decided to withdraw it:cool:

Will do! does it matter when tesco takes the DD or is it just random? i assume i need to pay into the halifax so that tesco can take from it properly
  • As long as you have 2 direct debits set up, it doesn't matter what time of the month they are paid.

And don't close the Tesco accounts, as you'll need them to provide a source of direct debits from your Nationwide accounts.

How much would you suggest? I must have about a dozen direct debits for a pound each going into each of my Tesco accounts. I don't mind upping it if it prevents a problem at a future date!

With full Club Lloyds and BoS accounts returning £8/month, you may as well extract the lot.

My Co-op DDs total £30 or so, so £7 to £8 per account.

When Halifax cut the Reward to £3 I began 'overfunding' them by £2 and left the DDs extracting a total of £5, rather than dropping the DDs to £1/£2 or £1.50 each.

I also auto extract my FlexDirect interest by a pair of DDs (£4/£6).

There's really no need to use £1 DDs...is there?

I see your point. The only ones where I can see w point to £1 dds is a couple of donor accounts I've set up for future switches, but I can always up the minimal balance I keep in them.

There is no correct figure, though YorkshireBoy's suggestion makes sense:).

Mine are all set for random amounts such as £2.75, £5.95, £8.50, £10 etc, mainly so I can identify them easily after a very perplexing few months a while ago when I just couldn't fathom what had happened to some of my DDs following current account switches. I gave up in the end and started using more randomised amounts.;)

I do the same both to be able to identify and cross check and not to take the pi...mickey.

I've only used whole pounds though so not quite as creative randomly assigned between one and tent.
