We lived next door to a bully and there's not much you can do. Apart from many nasty things he used to chat to some neighbours telling lies. So in the end I applied for some !!!!!! mags with his name on them addressed to the neighbours. Eventually the neighbours all ignored him and he moved away. Karma.

    That's brilliant :T

"He has told us he will punish us" - that sounds like threatening behaviour to me. Might be time to have a quiet word with the police (this is not about a boundary dispute, it's about his nasty behaviour).
    .

    Agreed. Take this on board.

I think he means by taking us to court for, e.g. this new fence, raising boundary disputes, stopping us having an extension. He is wealthy and has a very good job. He has harassed us for sure, but unless it's violence or has a racial motivation I think it's difficult to do anything about it.

Of course, his bullying has worked because we are trying to move! This also means we can't go down any formal route as we would have to declare it. We have declared the original boundary dispute of course.

I probably need some kind of counselling I think.

    He is wealthy unfortunately.

Having flash cars and pretending to be wealthy is not the same as having money. if he had real money he'd have moved into a bigger house in the first place.

May not be possible for you, but i'd move and then rent the same place out to the most awful people I could find :)

Truth of the matter is, that the people you have as neighbours are unpleasant, they're not going to change. Nor is your relationship with them.
There may be various ways to stop their nasty games, but the reality is that you'll still be living next door to someone you hate the sight of.
I would move if at all possible.

Harassment can be a criminal offence:

So, he has erected an extension without engaging a Party Wall surveyor.
I'm pretty sure this is illegal and you can sue him for failure to adhere to the Party Wall Act. You would need a party wall specialist to give you proper advice.

As for YOUR fence, let the fool waste his money on a Court case he will lose. Might make him realise what an !!! he is.

  • The reason I suggested renting to the council and moving out, is that you'd almost certainly always get rent . Plus you may get suitable tenants who would not put up with any nonsense from the toe rag next door . Hope things improve for you eventually

The OP doesn't need to waste money on a specialist.

This work is complete There is nothing anyone can do now in that direction.

It might help, but only do it thinking that you need to return to your more usual self, not because your usual self is somehow inadequate.

We all react differently to harassment, which happens to most of us at some time. In some forms it's so subtle we miss it at first and find ourselves giving-in to it without realising. Other harrassment is blatant, like your neighbour, but all of it comes from people who are deeply unhappy in some way.

Remember, it's them, not you, that has the underlying problem.

Think of someone locally that people like and admire. I bet they don't harass anyone!
