Well its time for annual check in and I am happy to say that it is now 6 years since I decided to give up alcohol.
In the last 6 years I have been totally AF free,
Being AF hasnt stopped me having a social life and visiting pubs & restaurants with my friends & family - in fact it gives me the perfect excuse to leave early after my usual 3 pints of diet coke !.
Health wise my diabetes has got a lot better, in fact I just had a blood test done for my annual review and was told that because my diabetic control was so good that I dont need to see anyone to discuss it.
Financially as well its made a huge positive difference to me as I can now afford to enjoy life by going holiday ( next week I am going to Edinburgh for a birthday holiday).
This is from someone who was drinking 36 to 48 cans of Belgian Stella per weekend.
Please take this as an inspiration from me, that if I can do it so can you !.0 -
Hi Antonic,
Congratulations on your six years and it's really great to hear how you are doing again. No way I could drink 3 pints of diet coke! Good to know it's working for you.
Thank you for an interesting Sunday read!

Thanks maman for your best wishes on my travelling this week, unfortunately I am not going anywhere, must be someone else
14/20 AF days for me Shaggy, had a rare night out in pub with OH and had way too much to drink as testified by how I felt this morning (and how he left too). When will I ever learn?
Well done antonic on your 6 years AF. Amazing achievement!0 -
Good to hear from you AnTonic! Very reassuring to know you're still AF after six solid years and that you're still enjoying life. Well done for sticking with it and thank you for letting us know there is life after booze.takingonedayatatime wrote: »I should never have worried about telling her I wasn't drinking.. I mentioned it on the way into town and she said that she had probably drunk enough this week as well and would join me!
I'm so glad you told your friend and she took it so well, OneDay. I think a lot of people find it a relief not to have to try to keep up all the time, and just have a bit of time off from drinking but it's a risk as you know, actually talking about it.
15/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
Just got settled into bed.
3 AF on the trot. All other days minimal but not AF.
Had a really busy week with the pub. I wish i could tell you more but it would blow my anonymity within the group and i wouldn't like some of my <previous> postings going public.
Onwards all.
I have some posting catch ups to do. Hope that you are all getting there. :T

I started reading this thread last week and, on Wednesday last week, I had my last glass of wine. Originally, I was going to stop for a few weeks but still drink when I go out, however, I have been reading Honey Bears posts and see so many similarities to me.. drinking when no-one thinks I am, becoming unpleasant when I drink - especially to my wonderful husband
Welcome from me too Takingonedayatatime. Great first post. Resonated with me massively for all those reasons too. And, you seem to be doing amazingly.

Shame you aren't travelling I must have mixed your post with Maggie's. Still a fabulous month for you though!:T
 manpants, good to see you.
 good to see you too anataonic. 6 YEARS AF! WOW!:T
I'm hoping for at least 3 this week, maybe more. That means target and lots of month left. Probably just as well though as it's half term next week and I may go away for a couple of days (Apologies, just thinking aloud. I find it helps me to have a rough plan.)

Don't hesitate to let me know if I've made a mistake! What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0
