  • Jolly well done cuppatea!

Declaring early for 15/21 tonight. I can no longer hit my target of 21 this month but I'm happy with my improvement these last few months. Having a higher monthly target is all about getting to 150 for the year and getting my dancing banana smiley! I have already had as many AFDs in 9 months this year as I managed in 12 months last year which feels good.

I think part of why I've done better is putting my days into outlook at the start of the month. Literally 1 at 5pm on the Monday, 2 on Tuesday etc. It quickly made me see the impact of an unplanned drinking weekday when I had to plan a Friday or Sunday AF instead.

I'm still not where I want to be but the other thing that has helped is it now seems closer to normal not to open my bottle of white wine each evening. I try not to tempt fate by keeping it at room temperature rather than in the fridge but at least it's (mostly!) ok to have it in the house now. Unlike cheese!

The fact I'm sleeping better and perhaps running less on caffeine and adrenaline is helping too. I cut out coffee except 1 every 3 weeks and probably also get better sleep when I stay alcohol free.

I want to sit down and calculate a realistic plan to get to 150 days before the party season gets underway.

I am really grateful to this thread, Shaggy and all of you posting on here. I often don't post much text these days(probably just as well given this essay!!) but always read along and find you all so helpful in my struggles to change. You have helped me think through things related to booze that I would not have thunk alone. You guys are all great. :T
  • 20/24 please

Please can I have a target of 24 for October please I have some exams quite soon and also coursework due end of October and I've told myself options are drink and fail or try harder to be sober if only temporarily and see what happens.

Having said that Thursday and Friday will both be drinking days but very small amounts.

    Debt-free and Proud!
I used to post a lot on here and contributing helped me to cut down my drinking from an unacceptably high level to only drinking very infrequently. Well, over the past month or two I’ve gone back to having a bottle of wine over dinner and drinking during the evening until bedtime. My wife and I are now spending a lot of money on alcohol and drinking again is not doing me any favours. Mrs K is away with work until the weekend and I was determined to make tonight AF which has been successful.

Hoping to make a target of 21 for October.

    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

Congratulations on reaching target (& exceeding it) ElusiveLucy :T

Welcome back AlexLK - I remember you from before :hello:

Aiming for an AF tonight but not confident enough to declare early today as I am out with friends and I may succumb to a glass of wine ;)

Congrats ElusiveLucy and welcome back AlexLK - amazing how insidious alcohol is even when you think you've got it cracked :(
  • Thanks Sukeyboo and CathyBird. I am going to try for another AFD today but if today is anything like yesterday was at work I may not make it.

I was looking at my annual total and although I am down as TF I was looking at how I can make 150 for the year and it really brought home to me how many days I drink. It was a sobering (!) thought.
What goes around comes around.....I hope!
