It's so lovely to see you racking up the days, Poor Single Lady. When you first joined us I seem to remember you were a bit worried you wouldn't be able to cut down, and look at you now! Hugely well done.

Well, not sure what happened yesterday, I was totally wiped out. Napped for 40 mins then 20, then went to bed 5ish till 10. Thought I'd be awake all night but in bed by 2, slept till 8. Feel a bit better now.

Ate all the rubbish, chocolate, crisps you name it. No alcohol though. Not sure what that was, just totally exhausted. Could be part of recovery or something else. I could actually go back to bed now, might do that. Won't be drinking anyway, so 16/31 please

That, New Me, is because you're not drinking at all, and your body is telling you just how much energy you used to get from the sugar in the booze. It hit me just as hard and the only cure was chocolate - for me. I slept and slept and slept as well, and I needed every second of it. The phase passes but it wipes you out when it first hits. Lots of early nights and allow yourself to eat jelly babies, or chocolate, or biscuits, or whatever else you need. If you're a saint it'll only be fruit and sweet vegetables like sweet potato and parsnips but I'm not - but either way, it's sugar you need.

I have to say I did not start to feel anything like 'well' for a very long time and it involved cutting out bread, toast and porridge in the mornings, all of which side-swiped my energy levels every single day until I cut them out after Shaggy mentioned sticking to Low GI foods during the day. I now have 20 almonds for breakfast every day (I love nuts, fortunately) and I'm boosting it with four dried figs at the moment because I'm eating a lot of eggy meals rather than meat and figs work!

Cutting out booze doesn't make everyone feel fabulous - sometimes it isn't just the booze that was affecting our metabolism, it's other stuff too. I don't have to dose myself up with paracetemol or ibuprofen for headaches pretty much daily any more but the general sluggishness I was afflicted by, as it turns out, wasn't just the booze - it was too much in the way of carbohydrates as well. I had no way of knowing that while I was drinking.

    16/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

Another night achieved taking me to 6 AF, and by jove, that looks almost like a week!

Did an interview for a magazine yesterday which is always nice to get free coverage but it meant i had another 16 hour day. Pub life is tiring to say the least and full of temptation too!

Great to read so many positive stories. One thing is for sure, if i keep logging in here I do a lot better than if i don't.
