  • Yes welcome back scatterbrain, it's always best to keep posting even if you are doing well on your own.

Think the 'home' works do is a fantastic idea HB but not everyone is lucky enough to work with someone as generous as yourself who would do that.

    12/5 AF days for me.

Found it a bit of a struggle last night. When we had supper there were lots drinking wine around me and I told myself I could have one when I got home if I fancied one. Fortunately the lure of getting to my target (and keeping calories down with the festivities coming up) won out so, although very tempted, I just made a cup of tea.:xmassmile

    10 AFDs please Shaggy.

Honey Bear, does paintballing not bring out the worst in people? ... Go-carting sounds fun though. I like the idea of the home-based Christmas do, I must say. It couldn't be done at my workplace as it's central London and there are too many people who come from absolutely miles away but it's a lovely idea.

Me too and if I could think of an effective way to just work from home I'd do it. Still working on that one!

If they're aggressive, then yes, paintballing allows them to channel their aggression. Perfect for overtestosterone-charged blokes, and I'd just make sure I wasn't anywhere near them while they did. They're the ones that I don't like at all when they're !!!!!! anyway, so if it's going to have an outlet, I'd rather they were sober and taking it out on each other. My turn would be when the older, saner, less needy people want a go - and they are the ones who hang back at the start. It's the agressive ones that want to go first, always. I might even go so far as turning up late ....

A tiny firm of solicitors I worked for asked a freelance cook to come in and make us Christmas lunch at the office in the boardroom, so we wouldn't have to go out for it one year. It was the next best thing to shelling out a ridiculous amount of money for a very indifferent meal in an overcrowded raucous pub or restauraunt. It was an hour's commute each way from where I live and most of us didn't want an evening thing, fortunately. And there was a usefully sized meeting / boardroom available, aong with a cooker and a microwave, which the very good cook made the most of.

I think the point I'm driving at is that there are a lot of options available at Christmas if people start planning it for next year rather than passively accepting that while no-one seems to enjoy the event, we all just cough up £££s and go along with it. Is there anything worth seeing at the theatre, a film everyone would enjoy, anything at all? (Paddington 2 or Star Wars this year spring to mind.) Mostly it's based around drinking copious amounts of booze with people that we see quite enough of at work, thank you very much.

Being able to work at and from home was something I started planning when I bought this house 25 years ago, Cathy Bird, it didn't just happen. I'll never get rich, nor will I ever have enough money to buy everything I want. I'm not particularly interested in travelling any more having done it for 20 years while I was young so don't feel the need to shell out for exotic holidays and a real interest in doing pretty much everything I do (except housework and I really hate housework!). And I've been very, very lucky, too, which always helps.

You don't come across that way on here. I count you as my virtual friend.:)

Thank you Maman, and I count you as my virtual friend as well, along with quite a lot of other people on both this thread, and the Flylady thread. I'll never forget how welcoming, supportive and kind you were when I first joined this thread - it meant a lot and it still does.

I like most people, but I find some a bit weird sometimes in real life!
Think the 'home' works do is a fantastic idea HB but not everyone is lucky enough to work with someone as generous as yourself who would do that.

I can categorically assure you it wasn't generosity, Green Karen! OH and I both reallly enjoy cooking and throwing a party, and I was so sick to death of revolting food in horrible surroundings so it was utterly selfish! I also got on with a couple of those colleagues very well and am still in touch with them 16 years after I left which is rather lovely.

    17/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
