Honey Bear - thank you for your hugs. The were warm and made me very happy. I've not been AF the last 2 nights but I'm definitely drinking less. I've not woken up with 'that feeling' for a couple of weeks now and that's very positive. After a couple of drinks I'm telling myself I need a cup of tea as a break and then I don't end up having another one.

Freedom Beckons- hello and welcome. You are so in the right place. There is nothing but encouragement and positivity here even when you confess that you've slipped up. I've been popping onto this thread on and off for a few years when my drinking gets out of control. And every time it's helped me cut back. I'm a real emotional drinker. So when things get difficult I turn to the bottle for a bit of support. I don't want to give up drinking. I just want to control it. And this site helps me no end.

I am beginning to see my triggers and as such I'm making some adjustments. Maybe this would help you. Some of them are big. I'm giving up my stressful job at Christmas. This job has definitely caused me to drink, just to block out the stress. But I'm taking the bull by the horns, even if it means a lot of cut backs in other places. Even since I resigned I've been drinking less and I'm expecting this trend to continue.

Please seek professional advice if you need to. There is less shame attached to that than the shame you feel at the loss of respect from those close to you. We've all done stupid, embarrassing, regretful things due to the drink. Changing is difficult and requires great effort. But the self respect you gain is greater than the pain of giving up.

Good luck and I am looking forward to following the first steps on your journey to a new you.

    :)

PS I had a vivid dream last night where I had a sip of wine aboard ship (no idea, don't ask) and then thought "Oh no! I've ruined my AFD!!"

Me to, occasionally! Odd, isn't it?

I'm still trying to find the link to the questionnaire that I think is the best for assessing where drinkers are on the scale, Freedom Beckons. I think I've got a note of it somewhere but that involves a bit of delving. Bear with me; I haven't forgotten.

    19/30 please, Shaggy.

Keep going Freedom Beckons - 3 days is a great start and shoes that you can do it. Log in every day and remember everyone here will be supporting you and cheering when you do well.

I don’t want to go AF but do want to reduce the number of days I drink and the amount I drink on a day when I do have a drink - so drinking is less important and not an issue. To be honest, i am successful some days and not so successful others, but I am a lot more aware of triggers and the warped thinking of I deserve it, or s*d it days.

There is a poem posted on another thread about a Persian king with a ring engraved with everything shall pass on - seems helpful to me, so if I can just do this for the next - insert time frame - then the feeling may have gone. Thinking of you

I think that is right. Struggling to keep track but I know it's more drinking than I had hoped for. Glad to have a quiet week coming up.

:hello: Back from my holiday. Pleased to report drinking was enjoyable and moderate. I even managed an AF day yesterday when travelling despite the guy next to me drinking throughout the flight.

I haven't read back but hope everyone is well on track for November.:)

    8 AFDs please Shaggy.
