Just get one off amazon from a uk supplier. Not uk poster, uk supplier. That should weed out the chuff.

Then keep an eye on it for a few days untill you are happy with it.

There is absolutely NO way to guarantee the quality of non-oem parts, you may find one for sale at £10, another for £50 and it'll be exactly the same item.

Hell you can't even guarantee that genuine parts are what they claim to be these days. Even Amazon were stung by fake SD memory cards getting into their supply chain.

I used to work for a company that vetted components used in military equipment, vehicles and war ships, we found a shocking number of fake/counterfeit components getting into the supply chain and some of it was low value stuff, it made you wonder what could possibly be in it for them. NOBODY does this level of vetting for consumer grade equipment........ They rely on their supplier and their supplier just buys what they can get cheap.

So what you are saying is YOU HAD NO PROBLEM but were scared to death by all the stories.

    Your fear has been monetised

    Honestly!

It is just like anything else, find a half decent supplier with better than average quality control, there may be some problems but less and half a percent.

Yes, I feared the battery would overheat and catch fire! I took a chance and bought the very cheapest battery I could find. I then regretted my decision, although as I mentioned I carried on using the battery and it turned out fine. However, the internet is awash with stories of cheap unbranded batteries overheating, etc. For what it's worth, I'm a reasonably sane individual - but considering most people leave laptops charging overnight / unattended for long periods of time, peace of mind should come before saving a few pounds.

Buy from a UK supplier? The same supplier that bought a crate load of unbranded £5 battery packs from China?

I have some 6600mAh 18650 cells, even though they do not make them at that capacity. Came free with a torch.

Mains charger went into the bin, that WAS an accident waiting to happen. Super thin wires in a charger thats supposed to charge at 1amp per cell?

It was OK on the 6600 cells which were really about 900mah because they charged slowly. But putting decent cells in may have been risky.

I have no problem buying direct from China all my phones come from there the thing you lose is the ease of returns for guarantee. This largely does not bother me.

Never had any problems with anything that has actually turned up a couple of small things went missing on the way but these got refunded. I have even found the Chinese to be very good at customer service when i asked about a battery charger for one of my phones they sent me, without cost, a plug in multi-charger which I still use today for lots of other things despite phone no longer being used.

I have only ever bought one replacement battery for a laptop this was my old Sony Viao which I use as a back-up the other battery lasted very short time and was getting very hot.

I bought through Ebay I got the cheapest one going and it has been perfect, it has not caught fire it does recharge and does power the laptop. It also spends all its life plugged in like most of my laptops because they are rarely used for moving around. The cheapest just happened to be supplied by a UK supplier which I think was just an agent of a Chinese business.

I have also bought many batteries for compact and DSLR cameras many direct from China never had any issue with any of them.

The major problem with Chinese supplied stuff now is they price in $ and the £ v $ is now fairly poor so prices have risen quite a lot.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

    This really is scaremongering!

I have said many times that buying a lot of stuff from China carries some risk BUT there are some suppliers I have trusted for Laptop batteries

This supplier has supplied me with Laptop batteries and still going well after 2 years, they have sold over 21,000 items in last 12 months with around 121 negative feedback, that is less than half a percent and only a handful are bad battery.

They ship from UK fulfilment centre and for £11.86 it is worth the risk IMO.

You have the backing of eBay and Paypal, so if things do not work out you get your money back.

This is your battery, 6 cell version.

    www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401315890090

This does seem too cheap - only one sold with no feedback on this item - best avoided I reckon ??

Sounds like the one I bought, it didn't work out of the box, opened it up and found what you described.
It had NO FUSE, it had very thin solid core wires tacked onto the mains pins (which are designed to fold away) within millimetres of the metal positive charging tab, the potential for the wires to work harden, break off and turn that tab into 240 mains was very real and not only would that cause a lithium battery fire, but it'd seriously hurt anyone that touched it, with the only protection being your 32 amp circuit breaker in your consumer unit.

I ended up gutting the charger, binning the PCB, removing the mains pins and fitting a USB lithium battery charging module inside it instead.

The batteries it came with, were labelled as 3000mAh, but actually measured out to less than 500mAh.
