My 5 year old laptop (an Asus X75VC) needs a replacement battery (it lasts less than an hour from "fully" charged)
When new - it lasted at least 6 hours
What brand should I go for ?
Amazon have them at anywhere between £23 and more than double this
I am aware that the most expensive are not necessarily the best ....

  • Non original batteries are a bit of a gamble, there are lots around and most will have come from China at a fraction of the resale price.

I got a replacement from Amazon for my Asus, but it was some time ago and a lot changes in a month, let alone 2 or 3 years. Last year I bought an "Anker" battery for an Acer from Amazon for £23 and it's not very good, so wouldn't recommend one of those.

I would check out reviews/feedback on both Amazon and eBay.

Two years ago I bought a very cheap replacement battery for my old Macbook on Ebay from 3c-dealcity was a bit worried as they are based in China but thought it worth a gamble.
Well the battery is still performing well so very happy with it.

Lots of fake Anker batteries around.

Unless you buy an Acer branded battery from a reputable source its time to cross your fingers and some prayers may help?

    Don't risk it, buy original.

I know if I bought a "fake" i'd be taking it out of the laptop every night and watching it VERY carefully when on charge.

I paid £97 for a kosher Samsung battery rather than risk buying an arsonist for £16.

Have you tried emailing them, I had difficulty finding the battery for mine and it turned out it was because it's commonly known by a different type number to the one marked on the battery.

Yes - I have - but from past experience, getting a response is like getting a squirrel off its nuts !!

Any non-branded battery bought off an auction website for example is a huge gamble. I bought a replacement battery for an old MacBook Pro for just £15, and it was actually fine. HOWEVER, for the first few days I lived in constant fear that it would overheat and start a fire, and to be honest that thought was always at the back of my mind. I would always source from the original manufacturer now. Peace of mind is worth far more than scrimping on £20 or £40 over the remaining life of the laptop.

All batterys come from China. Originals. non originals.

What differs is they quality they are produced to.

(I accept it is technically not all. but with these sort of brands it will be!)
