Can I privately improve my connection?

We are currently looking at a house to buy, but the big downside is that it only gets 2-4mbps broadband. We are used to 50+mbps.

I checked the coverage at the address on Openreach, which claimed to be "superfast accepting orders", however after contacting Plusnet (who inexplicably told me that the address is FTTP enabled) and then Virgin, as an FTTP provider (who then told me they couldn't do anything for me as it wan't actually FTTP...go figure), as well as looking at the BT and EE websites, it seemed this wasn't true. I contacted Scotland Superfast and sure enough, that address isn't fibre, despite what Openreach said. They told me that the address isn't on the current rollout plans and won't be upgraded until 2021 (despite being a half hour from Edinburgh!!). There are houses very nearby to this one with the same postcode which have better connections too.

So my question is, could I pay privately to have my connection upgraded? Is there anything I could do about the connection myself. I'd be happy to spend a couple of grand if that's what it took, but my gut feeling is that it'll cost much more.

Perhaps you could quote your postcode, generally Virgin Media do not offer FTTP , it's only available in a few places, VM is usually a hybrid system , much like Openreach fibre to the cabinet, the chances are the VM service you had previously was this ( and presumably acceptable for your needs)
If your postcode covers a large area ( perhaps a rural area) it's possible that FTTC may be available to some parts of the postcode but not all, the individual cabinet your address is served from would need to be enabled , and in the case of Infinity, the line would need to be capable of 15Mb/s or more (BT have a broadband by fibre service for lines below this threshold but it's not widely advertised) , but obviously the cab would need FTTC first.
If someones pockets are deep enough they can have a 'leased line' , if the area is fibre enabled you may get FTTPoD, where you get your own FTTP from a suitable AG Node, but that can be expensive on both an initial 'install' charge then a few years of ££££'s per month to cover the providers outlay ( after which the cost can revert back to native FTTP costs)
First step is to get clarity on if the area is 'superfast' ready or not

Can you use the address and input it into the address checker and put it in here https://www.dslchecker.bt.com

Can you post up a screenshot of the results?
