Do new car manufacturers have to supply service schedule details?

I'm trying to get the service schedule and requirement for a 1 year old car we bought earlier this year.

Time was in the info wallet you would get a user manual, the entertainment system book etc and the book that carries all the various A, B, C etc service requirements.

After finding no such book in the car I rang the Renault main dealer we had bought the car from. He explained that the last few pages in the general handbook were the service record. Quite correct, the car was stamped as having an A service when we bought it.

However nowhere does it state what is done or required at an A service or any other. This is common through the Renault range as have asked on a Renault forum
I guy said there was a slip of paper in his handbook informing the supplying dealer to provide the full schedule on request.
I want to be able to check what needs doing and what has actually been done, call me cynical but.

I understand this info is available to independent garages which is the route I go, I want to check if they have done what is specified and without the info it's impossible.

I am of course trying to get Renault Retail to supply this but after 3 phone calls and not being able to speak to anyone in the know I'm getting a little miffed.

So the question, do they legally have to provide this info to the cars purchaser?

  • The car when new would have come with an A4 folder titled "Handover Documents" in this folder should have been; warranty, roadside assistance and service schedule information.

    Our Juke, now sold had blank pages in the service book where the dealer was meant to stick pages for that particular model in. Of course this was not done for our car and I suspect many more.
    Shoddy dealers!

    The car wallet with documents is bulimic compared with 3 years back.

    Details have not been accidentally left out, the simply don't supply them, unless pressed which is where this is going.
    If anyone here think an owner should have to trawl the net to find what Renault/others should have provided then feel free.

    True, but from a practical point of view it would probably be quicker to trawl the internet, using your favourite search engine, than to type out the posts asking about it.

    But would I find the answer to the original question?. The legal situation.

    Not where do I find the info, but do they legally have to supply it?, or tell me I'm wrong? I'm sure you get the issues.

    If you were in a war with Renault over a warranty issue would you stand there and say "some bloke on the internet said this was true,? so pay up"?
