This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

Hugs and positive vibes for those of you who are going through difficult times.

Tru That is fantastic news about your dad. I hope you are coping with having Mr. Tru home.

Judi I hope that things go well for your son today.

Jackie I hope that you are feeling better this morning.

After getting a much better nights’ sleep yesterday, I woke up 5.30am this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, so got up and read my book.

I’ve lived in my current home for just over 11 years now and yesterday afternoon discovered for the first time that if I go off the estate and walk two minutes away from the town there is a riverside path that runs between the estate I live on and the river and around the lower park. It’s a really nice walk and I’m so glad that I found it by accident. Shame it has taken me this long though. I only went for a walk along there because I had been looking at it on google maps and wondered where it led to.

I’ve had a craving for shepherds or cottage pie for the past few days. I have decided to make this for dinner today, and remembered to get the mince out of the freezer last night so that is a good start :)

Yesterday was quite a productive baking for the freezer day. Amongst other things I made a Lemon Polenta cake. I wasn’t sure that I would like the texture. I thought it may be a bit too ‘gritty’, but it isn’t at all. To me the texture is a bit different to most other cake recipes, but not unpleasant.

I hope that you all have as good a day as possible whatever you are doing.

    Morning all.

Youngest has messaged me he's at the hospital and ready to be wheeled down. I think I'm more nervous than he is.

It's raining and I want to go home.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for starting us off. I had a better night last night, probably as I was shattered with all the to-ing and fro-ing and DGD minding. It's looking very grey outside and another day of sunshine and showers is forecast. Come back summer I miss you!

Yesterday's trek to Leeds passed uneventfully (we have done that trip so many times over the last 4 years we could do it blindfolded!) and the pre-op itself went ok. Now awaiting a date in the post for the op itself. One more for the list.

The DGDs arrived after swimming, along with DD and BF too, so rather a table full of us! Good job it was a very big pasta bake! DD, being veggie AND on a diet, brought her own tea with her! The girls were late to bed, being school hols, but middle one is up already and inflicting me with some American rubbish on tv. Pizzas have been requested for lunch so that's easily sorted.

Once DD finishes work she is coming home to pack the car and they are all off to the caravan till next Thursday. Hope the weather picks up for them. Hopefully we will be able to resume our own little trips over when Mr TA's appointments/ops reduce a bit.

Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for all the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Hope you are feeling better today JACKIE. Good news about your dad TRU and are you still counting to 10 with DH under your feet all day! Hope your youngest's injury soon mends JUDI, Mr TA knows how incapacitating it is being one handed. So do I so roll on next Tuesday when, hopefully, the splints and bandages etc come off!! Take care all xxx

    Good morning

Thanks for starting us off Holly

Hope all goes well for your son Judi

Good news about your dad TRU

Spent most of yesterday making jam, cordial etc and freezing fruit and veg. The freezer is so full can't get another thing in it

    Thinking of buying a dehydrator

Still lots of plums and blackberries. The rest of the garden is doing well, thanks to the rain we've had in the last week. Plenty of veg and tomatoes.
Apple tree is going to give a bumper harvest.

Hope you all have a good day

    Morning All

It's raining. Hard. Washing will go on the pulley. I'll need my brolly to go out again, it has had quite a few outings this week!

Had a great catch up with a friend yesterday but the curry we went for wasn't up to much. Bonus was a friend was picking up her daughter from a party so came to pick me up from the train.

Good news about your Dad tru, hope Mr tru isn't annoying you too much!
    Hope you're feeling better JackieO.
When is your garden project starting Gers?
Let's hope your DS makes a speedy recovery judi.

Must go out and buy some cards/gifts this morning before I head off out for the day, going to a work colleague's for a house warming afternoon tea, should be fun.

Have a happy Friday, take care. XX

I didn't post yesterday as there were mifi problems. I'll read back in a sec, but in the mean time hugs to those in need.
It's been very showery for the last few days, so we moored up rather than getting wet.
Last night we had a TV signal so I was able to watch Who Do You Think You Are.
We are turning round today and heading back to the marina, we may take 2 days to get back as we don't rush and this part of the canal is very narrow with overhanging trees and also very shallow.
We've travelled 6 miles and visited a couple of nice pubs, all in all a lovely break.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

Morning everyone, thanks for the start Holly.

Dull and overcast here today, the washing was in and out so many times yesterday that in the end I gave up and put it on the airers!
I am going to do some Pilates this morning, have found an interactive course of classes on the tv so will have a go as missing my weekly stretch. Apart from changing the towels and the daily hoover up of dog hair there is not much needing to be done so think I will have an afternoon reading, in the garden if it stays dry. Food wise I picked up some prawns yesterday so those in a curry with cauli rice, just heard on the radio that a recent survey has shown that a few drinks a week can hold off diabetes so for the sake of my health will have to have a glass of wine as well :rotfl:

Hope you are feeling better today Jackie and sending positive vibes for Judi's youngest x
Have a good day folks x

Good Morning everyone and thanks for the kick start HH. I am feeling so much better today and more like my old self again thank goodness.Thank you all for your kind wishes .

The best news of all is my youngest messaged me last night late to say she had been to see her DD my eldest DGD who she had been estranged from for quite awhile and she is 7 weeks pregnant so I am going to be a Gt Granny :):):) Its early days and her DD has an awful lot of bridges to build as she had cut us all off from her life when she flounced out in a huff about three years ago We knew she had got married last year as one of the boys still is in touch with her via his phone So I am pleased that she will be a Mum and perhaps it will make her grow up a bit.
I shan't start knitting just yet though as it is very early days :) but will see how things go I always felt very sad for my DD as she is such a lovely person and I know how bad she felt losing touch with her eldest child, but who knows this maybe the making of my granddaughter

But a new baby is always good news to me :)

Right enough waffling I must get a wriggle on and sort out my fridge and see what exactly is lurking in there that I can use up over the next three weeks before our holiday

Hope your son's op. goes to plan Judi and all is well.

Weather is dry at the moment but I think a shower maybe on the way

Have a great day everyone what ever you are doing

    JackieO xxx
  • Lovely news JACKIE. Hope those bridges are soon built again. I can't imagine how your DD must have been feeling through the estrangement. Much love to you all xx
