Slow bt broadband

I can only get 3mb with bt broadband. I did the test using my neighbour virgin bb with his permission and reach 17mb. When my contract ends with bt I should be looking to go with virgin. Am I correct to assume I will get fast bb with cable. The other reason is bt will increase the price to double when the contract ends. Virgin landline and bb will be about the same price at least I will get a decent speed. Thanks

Depends on whether you consider 17Mb on cable fast or not (I'd say not but it depends on your location of course).

Check what's available in your area using something like:

https://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/

or

https://www.uswitch.com/broadband/postcode_checker/

and then the individual companies checkers to see what they estimate speedwise, for instance BT's:

https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/speed-checker/

If you speak to BT they might have a good deal for fibre for you.

You are lucky, we were getting download speed of 1mb and upload of 1.3mb, but since having no phone for 2 days when the line was repaired we now get hardly anything at all.
We are paying roughly £48 per month for nothing and have no choices as we are out in the sticks.
The engineer who repaired our phone line said a previous engineer had stapled through a wire and we now only have one phone socket working instead of 3 and intermittent broadband cover.
