Hair extension disaster and my rights

Hi
I had my extentions fitted in my home by a reputable fitter. I paid £300. And had nanos and was told they will last up!to 18 months with the correct care. After 3 weeks the hair was awful. Very dry, snapping from the botton, and completely unmanageable. I contacted my fitter who then told!me to contact the supplier. Whom are also a very reputable company and come highly regarded for the top quality hair they supply. They told me that my fitter would have to take them out and send them back. After a couple of week and no shows she came and took them out and was shocked by the state of them. And told me the address to send them back to, but not before rigorously questioning me what products I've used and how I cared for them. And it was exactly how I was advised by her.!
So I sent them back and didn't hear anything for a week and emailed the supplier and had no response so I rang them and they told me it wasn't my issue and it was up to my fitter to sort it out. But they needed her to contact them. After a few more days she must have contacted them, only with me urging her to do it.!
Then a week later I get an email from the company that they are taking the hair home and are gonna wash it as this hair has been over processed!! I was fuming! I got advised off my fitter to wash once a week. Straighten a couple of times but not everyday. And no not dye!! Ever!..Use a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. And that's exactly what I did, even though I thought it was a bit too strict considering it was supposed to be this amazing hair!!
Then a week later after me chasing it up with an ignored email every day, I got an email asking me to fill a goods return form back, as my fitter should have sent one. I explained that I had to send it back and please can they send her one. I had a reply stating it was between me and her to sort out!!! But also added upon washing the hair there were traces of red dye. And inwas told not to dye them! Arghhhhhh I explained then I used la directions wash in wash out on my hair at the top, and if it went in the extentions it would have been the tinist bit! I never dyed these!!
So now I'm chasing my fitter asking her for an order number so I can complete the returns process, and a decision can be reached. She has replied stating it should be between them and me as it my hair! And also keeps telling me she will ring me, and doesnt. Making me wait until the day after, but them fails to ring. Enough is enough! It's been going on now for 2 months. And I'm getting majorily messed about. I'm 300 pound down, and have had to spend 2 month with no hair.and I cannot afford to get anymore. I can't drop it.I've been made to look like Ive ruined these extentions myself, and also made to.feel like I am constantly getting on thier backs. But nothing is moving forward! ! What can I do? What if my fitter hadn't even got an order code, and got them from somewhere else?!
I am distraught! Can anyone offer any any advice
Thanks .

I think that's going to cause issues.
  • I've told them to take the 2 pieces of hair out that may have got caught up in the dying process. The rest of the 250 bonds wont have dye on them. It's impossible not to get traces of dye on it when it's all in my head. And also a wash I wash out won't have cause that much dustruction :( they have obviously found a reason I know this but ive done nothing wrong it's so frustrating :(

This will be the fitters argument. She told you not to use dye 'ever'. You then used dye which has caused damage to the extensions.

If you take the issue to the small claims court, which looks like your only solution now, this will be her defence.
  • I know what you are saying but ive not dyed them. I have the hair fitted underneath my natural hair. So it's my hair on top. I tie my extentions back. And put hair dye on my natural hair. And when I say dye I mean a simple wash in wash out for my greys lol. So a bit of the dye may have dropped onto the hair extensions. If they look at the colour rhey have in stock it will be exactly the same colour as the hair I've sent back. It would be almost impossible to dye them same colour as they came. And one more thing they have to take into consideration is that. Knowing I would have to send them back, would anyone do that knowing they had dyed them. Nobody in their right mind anyway . And now they have this against me. They are gonna use it! May as well face facts I've lost 300 pound of well earned money, and I have very little to back me up :(
  • My friend has exactly the same hair fitted in another salon and they dye it whilst she's there!

How do you manage to rinse the dye out of your own hair on top without the chemicals getting onto the extensions? I would think that was pretty impossible. You do realise there are a whole heap of other chemicals in hair dyes beside the pigments, yes?
My friend has exactly the same hair fitted in another salon and they dye it whilst she's there!

With an off the shelf box dye? I doubt it. If it's being dyed in a salon it will be with a dye suitable for extensions.

  • What amazing advice thanks guys! You have really helped here. I'm so glad I've come to here to air my concerns of what I need to do. But it seems all yor interested in is the hair dye bit! Have u seriously even read all my post or couldnt you wait to dive onto this and presume I'm some idiot ?
It's very easy to dye hair without getting it on the extentions. Because I dont have extentions in the top of my head! And it's hardly a dye. What a !!!!! site this is

there's no such thing as tint for extensions as the hair suppliers dont allow it, (most 'guarantees' you must buy the supplier shampoo & condition, this is solely to fund a home made insurance plan for claims, if you dont buy the product they wont guarantee. The product is a white label most fitters have & sell in their own brand themselves & dont realise their part in the guarantee, this is where it gets sticky)

Colouring is all done on the hairdressers discretion, they (tend to) know & trust the hair & take the gamble it'll tint well. I tinted loads, its never hair tint thats an issue (the hairs been treated anyway) if the hairs poor its poor, often its a case of a dodgy batch & its simply unlucky as the uk suppliers have no clue which alibaba seller it comes from.

Trouble is the hair extension supply world is run by little girls with an alibaba account (occasionally their dads) & this is what you get, girls getting involved then getting bored as its not their complaint to faff around with. (you need to deal with your hairdresser, she deals with the supplier) Extensionists are VERY susceptible to bad (truthful) facebook reviews; although i feel her pain, she probably thought her trusted supplier would back her up.

I can think of half dozen forums you'll be the talking point of & if its the cult of RC they can be brutal, lol.

I spent 5 years mixed up in the murky world & crawled out burnt.... that turned into a rant, sorry about that

charlies refering to tinting her t-section roots, it's easy to do with out touching the extensions & rinse leaning forward, it doesnt touch the extension hair. It would be an excellent MSE tip in general.
  • Thank your annie. Thats exactly the way I dyed it. And when i say dye. It's literally a wash in wash out punk red type hair colour . Hardly would cause distruction to the hair. Even if I did slap it all on...which I didn't. As if I'd even send it back if I did! ?
They are merely using it as an excuse not to refund. And I've taken great care of this hair, which anyone would paying so much money for it.
They even pulled me up about using heat protection spray on it. And asked why I've been using that? I simply replied " it's on your hair care sheet you supplied "
So they are basically looking for anything so they don't have to send new hair or refund.
I suppose it's a lesson learned from my end. I'll have to grin and bear the fact I made a very bad decision about having it done.
My hair technician is not replying to my messages now. Must be too much trouble. She's making a lot of money out there. Why would she bothered about little old moaning me?
She sure wasnt bothered about taking my £300 of hard earned cash after she fitted my poor extentions.
All I need off her is an order number . That's it! And then the supplier can come to a decision. And she's ignoring me.
Maybe that's because she didnt get the hair from this amazing supplier.
What else am I meant to think
:(:( totally fed up. 8 weeks this has been dragging on for :(:(
