The majority of our current stuff is decade-old IKEA that would be lucky to survive the move and, even if it did, would look ridiculous in the new house.
Sounds like us, either that or it was assembled in the room and we have no hope of dismantling and reassembling with any success
We've actually hardly got any big furniture to take which is why I'm hoping our completion date is soon or we'll have no chance of getting the new furniture delivered in time for Christmas!0 -
Same here, a lot of our furniture is either pretty much fixed in place, likely to fall apart if we try and dismantle, remove and rebuild it or just plain old worn out. At the moment, the only thing that's definitely going is our bed, the eldest son's bed, two sofas, a desk and a couple of chests of drawers plus the TV unit and the dining table and chairs - but whether those last two items will fit the allocated space is under question! We have been pricing some new furniture up too, it soon adds up doesn't it?! :eek:0

Buy nice stuff bit by bit - there's no need to rush to furnish a new place.0

Definitely agree. We have some money saved, but will definitely be investing in a few nicer, longer-lasting pieces this time. But there's no rush, well, other than a bed and mattress for my youngest! Plus, I want to do some decorating firstProperty buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21

5-6 weeks in and been window shopping for months! About to commission a handmade solid oak dining table and 8 chairs. Also getting some made to measure living room furniture from the same guy. 8-10 week lead time on it but says he can get it done and delivered by christmas. Just hope we complete by then or we will look pretty silly eating chrimbo dinner in the garage of our current 2 bed flat :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0

Mine was going so smoothly...
Buyers now won't accept £120 for the broken (probably, may be repairable) dishwasher so getting (another) engineer out today to take a look. Will have to replace if he can't fix it which is sooooo annoying. Reluctant to replace before getting it looked at in case the prob is with something else rather than the actual dishwasher. Will try to replace with 2nd hand if it comes to that.
They have also requested that I get an electrical report for the house - they can go whistle for that one! Why should I pay?! They've not even had a survey. It's like asking me to pay for their survey!
Grrr. So frustrating. They seemed so nice as well. Funny how the longer into this process the more horrible/demanding people get...2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

Are they FTB who don't know the ropes? I had a survey snd electrical check done, paid for both but the priced reduction I negotiated as a result more than covered the cost.0 -

My buyers had the home buyers report survey, plus an electrical survey - they paid for it, but it was a pain as the electrician spent 3 hours examining every plug, socket and behind every fixed appliance, having switched off the supply to the house. Then he decided we needed a new fuse box and smoke alarms, although the buyers have agreed to do the work themselves after completion. They would have had a gas engineer report too but I was able to submit paperwork to prove the service was up-to-date so they didn't bother.
Hope you can negotiate - do you have any paperwork you can submit that may alleviate their concerns? I know it's not typical to have a service on the electrical side of things like you would with a boiler.Property buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21

No update from me. No word from the EA to let us know whether our buyers' mortgage is sorted or not, and they haven't replied to me asking. Sigh. Fed up of the constant waiting on the latest batch of good/bad news in this process.Property buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21
