How long are your searches taking? Our buyer’s solicitor apparently submitted request 6 weeks ago and have now said they are only expecting them on 11th December - we are based in Greenwich London.
Our searches were submitted last Monday (9th November) and we are waiting on our last one coming back! Our local authority website says 10 working days but we shall see 🤷‍♀️
Was one of those drainage? According to my solicitor, searches were instigated 15th September, but there are ‘delays’ with drainage. Still waiting.

We are in the same position, I have been waiting since 23 October for the water and drainage search. I called the water company and they said their turnaround is 5 days but no idea what the hold up is! How long have people been waiting for this search?

I did this today! Southern Water told me the same. ‘Oh, speak to your solicitor, maybe more info was required? Turnaround, even in current conditions shouldn’t be this long...’ GREAT

I was originally told they are waiting on SES, then SES said that their turnaround times are 4 hours so no idea what’s going on! Beyond frustrating :(

Yes.. our environmental search came back within a couple of days. The water/drainage report was back this Monday just gone. And I contacted our local authority today and they said they've completed the local search and have sent them to our solicitor. So our searches have taken 8 working days!!!

3 months and 1 week since our offer was accepted. We’ve signed the contract, have all our searches back, mortgage offer etc. Still waiting for our chain to re-form after the second breakdown. I’ve abandoned all hope of moving anytime before April.

So from my last post a few things happened.
    • Guy at Top of chain tested positive (Joy). Out of isolation on the 23rd of November.
    • Was hoping to exchange Monday but he had to sort out removals.
    • Yesterday that was sorted for next Thursday (26th), and we were hoping to exchange yesterday.
    • I inform my solicitor, who was working from home but could get a colleague to get my file to conduct the exchange.
    • I get a message relayed I assume from Sellers solicitor -> Sellers -> Estate Agent -> Me that the exchange wasn't happening that day because my Solicitor couldn't get the file because nobody was in the office.
    • I send an email to my Solicitor who calls me up in about 10 minutes confused, and states this is not true and that a Solicitor up the chain said they were not ready instead when they tried to exchange.
    • I message the estate agent back, we are both confused at the misinformation. She will call around today to see what is going on.
Hopefully they can sort things out today as it needs to be done in order to not cause further issues.
  • Just joining. We are waiting to exchange on our sale (not buying), our buyer has a buyer with nothing to sell for theirs that was 5 weeks in when we started. We are about a month in now to ours and we've done all the forms and first set of buyers enquiries, buyer has mortgage, had gas check. So now we have electricity check, EPC, to sign our contract and transfer deeds and searches to go plus other sale though hopefully that's ahead of ours. We've been told searches are taking 5 weeks by us. EA thinks they haven't applied yet but he often just makes things up so they could have done. He was stunned when they had mortgage offer, their questions were back in less than 24 hours. We have cleared most of house but just have cupboards full of mainly junk to clear, and about 30 paint cans which no idea what we will do with, asked council and they said we can take them to tip but they'll only let us take a few each time and exact amount depends on person on duty. So about 10 trips to tips just for paint.

We would be stuffed here, our tip is still booking only, and one trip a week!

  • we are supposed to exchange today and complete tomorrow on our sale. Fingers crossed it happens! We have already moved out and have a cash buyer, so no chain, we were delayed by the searches taking 9 weeks, and now the past week the seller’s solicitor has been saying different things to different people so I’m not optimistic, but we’ll see!
