My go! I've tried to stay calm and easy going, but it's tough.

30/06 - Put house on the market

04/07 - Accepted asking price offer

04/07 - View "our" new house

05/07 - Viewed it again, because I wasn't interested the first time thinking the other house we were seeing that same day was going to be better (it wasn't)

    06/07 - offered under asking

    07/07 - offered asking

09/07 - got AIP, and offer was accepted

31/07 - chain complete: FTB > us > "our house" > "their house" > new build

09/10 - top of the chain collapses. Something about the searches on the new build means they have pulled out after 3 months. It appears this happened a while ago but they kept it quiet. After tears, we convince ourselves that staying put is better. Think of all the money we'll save. Our house is lovely. We're only going because we can, not because we must.

16/10 - the top of the chain have found somewhere else. That house is a divorcing couple, one going in to rented, the other to a new build. Nobody seems to know if there build is anywhere near being built or not. Give up hope of being in before Christmas.

02/11 - I'm sure something happened in between this and the last date, but I was consumed by doom and gloom. Our Sellers' agents ring us and say that someone has agreed to break the chain and move in to rented (unsure who) and now we're looking to exchange in December, subject to searches, according to our Sellers' agent. Emotions conflicted as was imagining swimming in piles of money that we'd"save" by not doubling our mortgage in the middle of a pandemic.

03/11 - according to MSE forum, searches are taking 6 weeks. Give up hope to be in before Christmas completely despite the agents saying it's very likely.

11/11 - get bored waiting to hear something, ANYTHING, and write this post
This is us. When we lost our buyer we talked about staying out and being mortgage free in 10 years, what we could do with the £800 a month we are saving atm etc. New buyer found and I had a huge wobble, then guilt as our vendor had waited for us (basically ready to exchange on it!) Then hubby telling me to stop it and we really did need more space etc etc. So new offer accepted Tuesday, now I am back to stress and worry about doubling the mortgage payment for the next 30years!!!

If it doesn't happen this time that's it, I am done. Staying put. Until the parking situation annoys me too much....
Yes, I never thought we'd be the ones to pull out - I just assumed that everything would fall apart and our sellers would no longer want to sell. But it turns out that's (currently) not the case. We haven't seen a single other house in our budget that we've like as much, or even close to it, so I think we would also stay put for a few years. Ours is a FTB hour really, or investor, so hopefully we would be able to find new buyers when we next tried to move.

Good luck, keep this thread updated!

We are leaving all ours. None cost a massive amount and thinking a ftb may like to save a bit of cash, even if the replace them within the first year or so. And they won't fit any of the new windows anyway.

So will have to get some new ones if this move ever happens.

Solicitors are a nightmare. Maybe they take on too many cases, I don’t know, but they cause delay after delay and it’s so frustrating!!!
What bothers me is that the delays have in no way been reflected in their fees. They've obviously taken on way too much work but I don't really care. Perhaps I'd be more understanding if they adjusted their fees to reflect delays!
We are due to exchange Monday and complete Tuesday. What a journey. Turns out the sellers solicitors were slow. Our offer was accepted on July 21st but they didn’t send a draft contract until September 30th. Our solicitors advised us that it would take 8-10 weeks from then so we’re actually completing a few weeks early.
The seller wants to meet us on Sunday to give us the keys....is this appropriate?! Not complaining, have someone coming to lift the carpets on Monday!
  • We have being aiming for completion by 20th November, signed contracts and mortgage deed. But have been told by the solicitor today, that they are waiting for the sellers to transfer the property to joint names.
Hopefully this won’t take too long!! We need to get work done on it ASAP. (It’s a vacant house with a leaky roof).

Out of interest, how long did your searches take?

12/11/2020 - Survey booked for 20/11/2020. As long as that's all OK solicitor says we should be able to exchange on the 4th and complete on the 11th December. Might own a house this time next month. Absolutely !!!!ing bricks at the prospect. I've been wanting this for 12 yrs and the thought of it happening, is great, but also nerve-wracking. Anyone else feel the same?

Same here. Signing contract on 17/11 and while very excited, am also pooping pants. It’s seemed like such a far-off fantasy dream for so long, it’s difficult to get to grips with the idea that it’s happening Now.
Hope it all goes as planned on the 17th! There's something about wanting it for so long - I've been seriously saving up my cash since 2016 for this house. I completely changed careers and retrained for three yrs so I could afford it! And yet! When I called the sol today and he agreed on the timeline, I actually felt a bit sick. I expect once we move in and it's all fine, I'll feel OK about it.
    Mortgage - £274,000 to pay

  • Can't remember exact time line but roughly..

    Offer accepted - October
    Mortgage Approved 2 weeks later.
Draft Copies of property information forms received yesterday!

That's made it feel a bit more real. Just hoping the chain moves quickly. Solicitor is chasing that now.

Congratulations to everyone who is at exchange and completion stage! We got our mortgage offer 2weeks ago and 'instructed' our solicitors but nothing has been done so far as they are still waiting for the sellers' solicitors to make contact. I was hoping this would be a smooth process as everything is done using an online platform and I can track the progress. They haven't even requested the payment for the searches yet or given an update on where things are and I'm not sure if that's normal. Thankfully we live in the property we are purchasing but I guess its going to be a long waiting game.
I can't believe how long it has been to get some progress. Our searches have finally been ordered but I won't hold my breath for the next steps. Just hoping to complete before the mortgage expires early February :#
