Chased solicitors again this morning, got a blase reply about reaching out to solicitors at the bottom of the chain to clarify their position to exchange.
Thankfully both our estate agent and the agent we're buying through are brilliant and they started jumping on it to push them to clarify on whether exchange for this friday is ok for everyone, and to ask yet again if everyone is happy with the 23rd for a completion date. Our EA sent an email out to solicitors involved asking to clarify these dates asap. The bottom of the chain are the ones with the mortgage offer expiring at the end of the month yet they're the ones impossible to get confirmation from. The rest of us have been ready to exchange for a couple of weeks now. We have our removals provisionally booked in for the 23rd but other dates around them are booked so if we have to try again we may not be able to rebook them.As well as having to keep my job updated because I want the time off around the move but my job requires a person we bring in to cover and ideally they need dates set in stone and I need time to prepare for the handover. Nightmare.
System needs a huge overhaul.

System needs a huge overhaul. We’re in the exact same position, and exact same dates, but the other way around - top of the chain are holding things up.The whole system is crap isn’t it.We need to be more like the Scottish system - the agreement is binding from the point of offer, not exchange.2 -
We're in a similar position...top end ready, bottom sound ready its the middle part which is stuck (our buyers solicitors!) We have no date for exchange or completion, it's so blooming frustrating. Provisionally booked movers 3 times now and no idea when it will be2

Just spoke to my solicitor, and compeltion is set for 27th September, and I'm going in to sign the contract tomorrow.
Such a relief, lets hope everything goes as it should now.3 -

How long did the process take all in all?
Not long compared to some who have posted on here, but does feel like an age, particularly having to remarket and start again with a new buyer. Inirially hoped it migth have been late july/early august had my original buyer been able to get his mortgage.1 -
