Another day in purgatory. For the umpteenth day running our buyer has said they have posted their documents 'today'. Rapidly tiring of the lies and honestly not sure what they are trying to achieve by doing so.

We do now, at least, have a plan.

If the paperwork fails to materialise tomorrow, we issue an ultimatum that if it fails to arrive by Friday we will 'consider all options'. If nothing by Friday, we're putting the house on the market (mainly, in the hope this pushes the buyer along).

All out of patience and finding it hard to believe how quickly this has all turned south...
sounds exhausting - I don’t understand why you would go as far as this and then drag your feet. As a buyer I just wanna move!! lol
  • Had a rather demanding email from my vendors agent asking me to push solicitors and wanting an update. I’d already told them we were waiting on searches so out of our hands atm. But good news they arrived back early so my solicitor is going through the reports. Finally feel like progress is being made until the next hurdle atleast!

Oh that sounds absolutely awful! I'm not familiar with the entire story, as I'm quite new to the thread, but (me being a buyer with no chain) I don't understand why would they keep lying like that! I'm frustrated with my solicitor's slowness now, but if I had received the contract to sign as they said they would post it "shortly" I would send it back the same day, 1st class with next day delivery, even if it cost me 20 quid!!

Thanks @laura_lau @caz_cardiff87 - this was my feeling too! I'd have personally hand delivering the documents.

Even our Estate Agent is mystified. In his words, if someone doesn't want to proceed they usually declare themselves out or go to ground - our buyer is responding quickly, just with false info! I'll never understand it...

Hello, I'm logging back in to this thread after a couple of weeks as I (finally, after 12 weeks) received my mortgage offer in the post on 1st May.
I am now waiting to receive the contract to sign from the solicitor, but they haven't been particularly open about the timescales.. I still don't know exactly when it's going to happen. On Friday they replied to my second enquiry of the week to inform me they have received the mortgage offer too (1 week after I did, which sounds really strange...) and said "we are now reviewing it and will send out the contract deed shortly for you to sign, then hopefully we can talk dates with the seller".
In your experience, how did you fix the exchange date? What kind of info did you receive from your solicitor? Sounds like my solicitor is refusing even to start suggesting dates until after I've sent back the signed contract, which to me sounds crazy as there's already been too much delay caused by a snail mortgage lender!
When I sold earlier this year all enquiries were answered by my solicitor, contracts etc signed and we were just waiting on the buyers searches. As soon as they came back and buyers solicitor had reviewed them and were happy no further enquiries came off the back of them, we then moved to agree dates. They wouldn’t talk dates until everything was in order. However once we talked dates it was all of a sudden very quick to move to exchange.

No news from solicitor today again. They would’ve received my signed forms by now.
Just want to start talking dates- no idea what is going on, don’t even know if last couple of enquiries are answered.
I’m beyond fed up, I hate my job and feel close to a breakdown between that and this house buying stress and can’t look for another job until completion, which is making this process so much worse.
  • I've had all the leasehold information back as well as the contract to sign. There are only 2 outstanding enquiries based on the results of the searches, so once these are resolved it looks like we'll be exchanging soon hopefully.

@amandacat thank you for sharing this, it's good to know this is pretty normal, my solicitor is so cryptic in her answers, and she usually only replies to the last question, completely ignoring the previous ones in the same email, so I constantly feel I'm in the dark!

Spoke to my solicitor by phone, and she is now happy full consent has been given and is going to start contacting the parties in the chain to put forward a completion date of June 3rd/4th. My vendor wanted to complete by month-end, so fingers crossed they are ok with this. Just want to exchange now, so I can finally breathe.
So happy for you!!!! It’s been such a rough long road and you are not nearly there! 💞
