All AIP's stopped from April 16, so if it ended after that then no AIP would have been set, it would only of applied if he had been 75 or over before April 16 AND his aip ended before then0

Generally, any pensions/benefits that have been paid out after the date death need to be paid back. So the relevant authorities need to be informed of the death, if this has not happened. Sometimes it takes them a while to get back with exactly how much is owed. And sometimes a payment before death may turn out to be partly overpaid as well, and needs to be paid back as well.
Have you notified all relevant authorities of the death?
Addition: What concerns a little in this situation is that there appears to be very little funds available for any possible refunds. This might be an insolvent estate. Can you give more information. Who paid for the funeral, for example.0 -

Didn't the OP post her friend had £45,000 in savings?0 -
When his death was registered was the "tell us once" service used? If so it is unlikely any overpayment was made & possible there was an underpayment, which they will deal with automatically.0

Providing state pension was paid monthly, because they are paid in arrears. Weekly are paid in advance, and it's usual for a small overpayment to have been made. I notified DWP by phone the day after my mother died which was a couple of days before the next payment would have landed in her account - it had already started going through from their side and couldn't be stopped.0
