Ref the deadline for old pound coins on October 15th
Does anyone know if I have right to refuse to accept old pound coins in my change from shops at any particular date?
I read shops can refuse to accept from October 15 onwards but, hypothetically, what if shops triy to give me old pound coins in change on 13th or 14th?
Thanks

I believe they should stop giving them out as change from the 15th just the same as they stop accepting them - the point of removing legal tender status is to take them out of circulation.
Any coins you have left over past this date can be taken to your bank for exchange.0 -
I don't think you can refuse before the 15th, but as TheCyclingProgrammer says, banks will accept them after the date.0

Thanks for the replies.
Yes I could bank, I guess there is no immediate rush post 15th.
If I do get any, I am sure vending machines and parking machines etc will not all have been switched over on the evening on 15th
I was just interested in options as I am trying to spend all of my old ones but seem to be ending up with more and more of them in change! Maybe because people are hoarding new ones for now and shifting old ones?

There will be a market for them round these parts, our swimming pool lockers still take them.0

I am trying to spend all of my old ones
The bank tried to give me some old ones today, I had to ask for new ones.0 -
No shop has to accept them at the moment. No shop is required to stop accepting them. Neither are you.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

I'll give you 50p for each of them if you want to get rid of themI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
There is no legal obligation on shops to give change so, although you can refuse to accept a £1 coin, the shop can decline to give you 2 x 50p and tell you to go whistle.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
