This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning all
Nice bright day here atm but I think we are due rain about lunchtime shame really as its bouncy castle day at work and should be very busy but the rain will keep people away.
Went to mums last night and has roast pork which was delish and she got some stuffing from the butchers which was really tasty.
Tonight will be something and chips I think there is some breaded fish in the freezer.
Will do a wash tonight and sweep through. Also quotes starting to come through so I need to sit and look at those.
Specky hope your head is ok
Dumpling hugs to you xx
Have good days all xx

Morning everyone
Thank you for starting us off redruby
I slept through until 6.30am today and feel much better for it.
Dumpling I’m sorry that Becky is struggling so much at the moment. I can only imagine how hard it is for you as a mother. I hope that the CAMHS service is giving her good support.
I managed to go and spend a nice couple of hours in the park yesterday afternoon. There was one heavy shower at the same time that a neighbour was walking home through the park so we went and had a cup of tea in the caf! which was nice.
My DSIL got the bus over here yesterday and was shocked that it took an hour and a half when it takes 30 minutes or so in the car. She had forgotten that the bus goes all around the villages. She is going to miss my nephew being at college here.
I have an appointment at the doctor’s this morning but other than that I don’t have much planned for today. I may do some baking later because it’s something I enjoy.
I hope that you all have as good a day as possible whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning folks and thanks RR. It's fine at the mo but sounds like all sorts of weather will be thrown at us today. Rubbish night's sleep, couldn't get to sleep and then couldn't stay asleep once I did.
Flying visit as need to be organised for the tedious trek to Leeds for the pre-op. The usual two buses and a train journey to get there and eventually back again. Bag will be packed with book, drinks and snacks to sustain us as not paying the silly money they charge at the hospital.
We have the 3 DGDs arriving after swimming for dinner and sleepover and then here all day tomorrow (blooming school holidays) so hope we are back in good time. "Here's one I prepared earlier" for dinner - the customary Bolognese Bake already made and ready to chuck in the oven, with some garlic bread, when we get back.
Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for those in need/want of them. DUMPLING I'm so sorry you are having a bad time. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all, bit of a grey day here so far, with rain forecast for later. I got soaked several times yesterday. Need to do some washing but am waiting for tomorrow in the hope of a better drying day.
I am off to work in a minute. Hopefully this will be a shorter day as I was rather tired at the end of yesterday, fortunately today is the end of my working week.
Sending positive thoughts for those who need them.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning
Strange yesterday, mother was very pleasant. Thanked me for visiting and said she looked forward to seeing me again. Not like her at all, should I be worried
Today is housework, not much else happening. If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good Morning all and bright and sunny here at the moment ,small wash put on to do and will get it out on the line asap as rain is forecast later.
Well DD and three of the boys went out for the day yesterday, and went to Westgate where DD and DGS attempted to fish a little, but gone his lure caught on some rocks so that put paid to that
Then we had some lunch at the cafe there I had a jacket spud with some chicken curry added .I only ate half as it tasted a bit weird.Good job I did as we went to Ramsgate to buy some new lures from the fishing shop there, and it rained on us all and we got a bit damp so I suggested we went to the Walpole Hotel in Cliftonville as the do a nice cup of tea there and its also partly a museum, and very interesting .We had a good walk around looking at all the exhibits and then went to the restaurant to have some tea.
I suddenly started to feel quite unwell just as the brought us the tea, and had to exit the place rather quickly, long story short, spent the next hour being quite ill and then DD drove us all home as I really couldn't even drive .
Made several stops on the way as I really was feeling bad .Definitely the chicken I think as it had a very odd taste when I was eating it and I normally really like it.
Got home at 5.30 and duvet on the sofa fell asleep for 5 hours then woke feeling a bit better if a tad wobbly had a cuppa and went off to bed and have just woken up feeling a great deal better, but with a really sore throat.
I will have a shower and maybe some scrambled egg perhaps .Think I will take things easy today as I am still feeling a bit fragile . The boys were really good bless them as they worry so much if I'm not well ( a rare happening as a rule ) so fingers crossed I will soon feel back to my normal self by tomorrow hopefully
Hope every one has a good day
take care

Dad's just had another chemo treatment. Apart from feeling a bit sick sfter the first session and having a slight headache each time, he's sailed through it and has been fine. He was supposed to have it fortnightly til Christmas but they said it looks like he'll be able to stop at the end of august
A friend dropped off a big bag of food from his allotment, I am seriously impressed with the size of everything. A bit peed off about the onions, they're enormous and make my normal sized ones look pathetic, lol. They won't be plaited with mine, I'm going to have to keep them separate
Are this year's strawberry runners (only a few weeks old) supposed to produce flowers? I haven't had this in previous years, it's just leaves for the first year then flowers and fruit in the second year. Not sure whether to cut the flowers off :undecided
Mr tru has taken some holiday days, he's off til monday. I forgot about this and am now wondering how to get through the next four days without losing my mind, lol.

Good morning everyone.
After the rain stopped yesterday afternoon the rest of the day was lovely. I had to go to the next village to meet with friends and then back home for the gardener to view the piece of neglected land.
He seem very positive and up for the challenge, I've given him 10 hours to start with to see what can be done. He'll spray and cut, or is it cut and then spray...can't remember.
Today I'm off down to Glasgow to spend time with DM. I'm sure there will be a list of chores to get through.
I hope you had a great birthday Speky.
Dumpling -I hope you can keep those spirits up! It's tough all round so, whilst worrying about Becky, please look after yourself too.
TA - such a trek for you both, I hope it goes smoothly.
Time to start my day, I wish everyone a happy Thursday.0 -
What a horrible experience Jackie, I hope you recover well.
Dumpling, I'm so sorry to hear that Becky isn't responding to treatment yet, I hope things improve soon, it must be terribly worrying for you.
I hope you had a good night Speky.
DD's puppy is still a source of amusement, apparently she has learnt to climb the stairs. DD texted me her annoyance with DH - the puppy has warm milk at night and DD asked him to watch her and take her out as soon as she'd finished. He became engrossed in his laptop so she widdled on he floor, the same sort of thing happened yesterday morning, he doesn't seem to understand the importance of csistent training.
We're still waiting for news on DH's job. He's hoping to be made redundant so that he can retire in November. It looks as if it might happen but no confirmation yet. Fingers crossed that it will.
Hairdresser this morning, then Lidl and then food prep for the family gathering this weekend.0 -
Good morning, Redruby thank you for the new thread. Hope weather holds for the bouncy castle.
Dark and grey here, OH tells me rain due this afternoon, but wouldn't be surprised if we have some sooner. It became sunny and so hot in the afternoon after some refreshing rain in the morning, we had all taken/worn rain jackets and it was stifling. Gym session with PT this morning, I had such a good session last week, but my body does have it's quirks:( Progress can be rather up and down:(
Jackie - I hope that you soon recover, not a nice thing to happen at all.
TA - best wishes for trouble free journeys and pre-op appointment for Mr TA.
Dumpling - positive vibes and gentle virtual hugs to you, Becky and all of your family. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Morning all
Dull and damp here.
Jackie O hope you feel better soon. Just as well you weren't on your own with the boys. Take care of you.
Up with the lark at 6.30 this morning as I am expecting a parcel from 7am. Am keeping an eye on the tracking but no further jnformation yet other than it's with the courier. Might be a long day.
Mr Gintot is looking for a new car. He is going to the Renault dealer this morning to look at the Captur. We currently have a Scenic but it's 7 years old now and we had to spend nearly£1000 on it a couple of months ago so it's going to be on it's way soon. He is also interested in the Kia Venga. Interesting times!
Well have a good day all. Hugs and spoons to all who need them.
