From comic genius Armando Iannucci, and starring Tom Hollander, James Gandolfini, Peter Capaldi and Steve Coogan, comes a hilarious satire about British-US relations and the lunacy of war.
Both the US President and UK Prime Minister want war but the generals, diplomats and floundering British Minister Simon Foster do not. When Foster unintentionally announces on national TV that ‘war is unforeseeable,’ the British government is sent into a spiral of chaos made worse by the crafty Director of Communications, Malcom Tucker.
In a failed attempt to undo the damage, Foster tells the British public to prepare to ‘climb the mountain of conflict’, and as a result, soon finds himself in Washington, where he becomes a pawn for the secret war committee and a poster-boy for the anti-war campaign.

Love The Thick Of It, the Beeb's achingly funny, BAFTA award winning sitcom set in the world of government spin? You'll love this then. Drawing from the hit series, In The Loop, directed by the show's creator Armando Iannucci - the comic genius behind The Day Today and I’m Alan Partridge - hits UK cinemas on April 17th 2009. Oh, and you can see it before then, for free, with ShortList.com.
Starring Tom Hollander, James Gandolfini of Sopranos fame, Peter Capaldi as the angry Scot from The Thick Of It and Steve Coogan, In The Loop is a hilarious and biting satire on British-US relations and the lunacy of war.
Britain and America have been friends and allies as far back as anyone can remember. Both the US President and UK Prime Minister fancy a war but not everyone agrees - including US Assistant Secretary for Diplomacy, US army general James Gandolfini and a floundering British Minister, Simon Foster (Tom Hollander).
When Foster accidentally announces on national TV that ‘war is unforeseeable,’ the British government is sent into a spiral of chaos and spin propagated by the verbosely aggressive Director of Communications, Malcom Tucker (Peter Capaldi). Foster attempts to neutralise his ‘unforeseeable’ comment by telling the British public to prepare to ‘climb the mountain of conflict’ but soon finds himself bundled off to Washington on a fact-finding mission. There he becomes both a pawn for the secret war committee and a poster-boy for the general and the Assistant Secretary for Diplomacy’s anti-war campaign.0 -
