    Free film season

Action for Children is proud to present our first season of films about transformation.

We want to highlight the challenges that children and young people face, and our long-term approach to helping them overcome those challenges. We have teamed up with DCM, Picturehouse, Theatr Mwldan and Queen's Film Theatre to offer free tickets to two great films on the first Sunday of April and May 2009:
    • Sunday 4 April: Juno
    • Sunday 3 May: Son of Rambow
    Free film tickets

You can claim two free tickets for any of the screenings. All you have to do is download one voucher and take it along to your local Picturehouse cinema in advance of the screening. The cinema will exchange the voucher for a ticket to the next scheduled film. And then settle back and enjoy a great film!
Get a film voucher A cinema near you

The three films will be screening in the following cinemas at these times: Juno

When Juno MacGuff finds herself pregnant after a one-night stand with her friend Bleeker, her life is turned upside down. But, with the help and unwavering support of her family and friends, Juno comes through this life-changing experience.

    Son of Rambow

Far from being about a child’s re-make of Rambo, Son of Rambow explores how society’s conventions can separate two friends. Will and Carter learn the hard way that without being there for each other, the challenges of Will’s tough Plymouth Brethren background would just be too much.

    Genova

    image.jpg

    When: 18:30 Wed Mar 25

    Where: Empire Leicester Square

    5-6 Leicester Square, London, WC2H 7NA

Comparable to ‘Nine Songs’ in its low-budget charm and intimacy, ‘Genova’ reunites Michael Winterbottom with ‘Wonderland’ writer Laurence Coriat (also an uncredited scribe on last year’s ‘A Mighty Heart’). Colin Firth is an American lecturer and father of two teenage girls. who is knocked for six when his wife dies suddenly, prompting a move across the Atlantic to the Italian seaport of the title. Once in Italy, each reacts to their grief in a different way, whether putting on a brave face, experiencing ghostly apparitions or embracing the sun, sea and sex of the Mediterranean. Coriat’s sympathies for the experiences of the two girls translate especially well, and Firth gives a relaxed, moving performance, while Winterbottom and regular DP Marcel Zyskind effectively suck up the romance and claustrophobia of the city.

    Two Lovers

    image.jpg

With ‘Two Lovers’, director James Gray completes a trilogy of films in which he has worked with Joaquin Phoenix as his leading man (following on from 2000’s ‘The Yards’ and 2006’s ‘We Own the Night’). This romantic drama set in New York City focuses on a depressed young man named Leonard who moves back in with his parents after a recent love split. As he works part-time in his father’s dry-cleaning shop, his parents eventually try to set him up with daughter of a close family friend. Even though he is fond of her, his attention has now been diverted to the beautiful and mysterious Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow), a woman who has just moved into his parent’s apartment block.
