Would elderly parent get housing benefit if living with us?

You indicate that your parents are renting privately and not claiming any benefits so one assumes that they have state /private pension provision/savings.
It may be that their savings and income are too high to be eligible for pension credit or housing benefit.
See http://www.ageuk.org.uk/Documents/EN-GB/Factsheets/FS48_Pension_Credit_fcs.pdf?dtrk=true
Have you looked into what help may be available (HB/CT) on their LA's website?
With regard to Attendance Allowance, ( not means tested) do either of your parents have care needs?

They both receive state pension, and one of them receives a private pension which will stop at their death. Will check out the links - thanks. Mortgage-free aged 33 :beer:0 -
If they could claim HB at their own property, I wondered whether they could do it if they lived with us. I don't see what's necessarily scrounging about that - it frees up their house to be rented by someone else, thereby helping supply of the housing market.
The fact that you can't afford to buy the house of your dreams without it is not relevant to the moral argument.0 -

You are sure that there is no provision for the survivor?
If not, and the survivor was in straitened circumstances, then it is possible that help would be available, see links.
It may be that there would be a one bedroom age specific property available through the council or a housing association.
There might even be such a property available now at a lower rent than they are currently paying.
They could check.0 -

They are currently renting a house for £650 per month, and the plan is that they would move in with us and pay us the £650 to pay towards the mortgage. They are both still fairly active (66 and 76 years old) and I would not be caring for them in the typical sense.
If one of them dies, the other would struggle to find £650 per month. Obviously I would not them to pay if they can't, but it may then make our mortgage unaffordable. Would the remaining spouse be entitled to any kind of benefit if they are living with us (not technically in the property but in a separate annexe)? If they were still in their own home then I am guessing they would get a benefit, but does it change things if they live with family?
Thanks all.
Afraid not as most annexes come with planning constraints stating that they can't be rented out for commercial use“You’re only here for a short visit.

If the mortgage wouldn't be affordable without a parental contribution (which, as previously mentioned, would not come into a lender's calculation ), a mortgage high enough to buy the property is unlikely to be available.0
