Are The Claims Guys legitimate

I applied to The Claims Guys to check if I had any PPI on any of my bank and credit accounts. Filled in their forms with as much details as I could and sent them off. I then started to get text messages and calls from numbers that I didn't recognise but who didn't leave any message saying who they were or what it was about. I hate cold calling as there are so many fraudulent people out there. Why couldn't they leave a message or contact me by post ...anyone had the same thing happen. Want to pursue a claim if I have one but who do I trust?

They're legitimate in that they will charge you a huge amount for buying a stamp - which is exactly what they promise.

If you feel you have a legitimate PPI claim, the use the Resolver on this site rather than The Claims Guys or other PPI firms as ZX81 stated, they will charge you, and it could be as much as 40% of any refund you could be due.
Use the resolver, it takes about 20 mins and its free!
  • Thank you vuteklx3 and zx81 . I'll check out the Resolver. My sister is getting paperwork for a direct claim to one of the banks too.

Many posts on this site complain that Resolver is just as unnecessary as a Claims Company even though it's free to use. Banks often require the same information repeated when it is submitted via Resolver.

    Why use any third party?

Simply write or call direct to the Bank. It's simple quick and free too.

I was speaking from my own personal experience, the process so far for me has taken 24 days.
Whilst i'm sure I could have contacted the bank myself, the tool provided a very straightforward way of doing so.
Having tried the Claims Guys myself, and pulling out of the process with them it has taken a third of the time that TCG took.
Maybe it doesn't work for everyone.

The Claims Guys are a legitimate company although I have had first hand experience with them and their processes were dodgy. I was cold called by them and they tried to get me to sign up to make a complaint against my own company. I said that I was an IFA but was told it didnt matter (it clearly does). I have never had PPI but that didnt stop they trying to get me to put in a complaint against myself.

Resolver is helpful for people who don't know where to start as it prompts you for the relevant information. However, it is just a glorified email template and doesn't provide any active help in formulating your complaint or making a case. You are also involving a third party in your complaint, which may increase the risk of complaints going astray or being delayed, or of your personal data being lost or sold. (I'm not suggesting they're disreputable, just pointing out the potential risks.)

As part of the deal for the setting a 2019 deadline for claims, banks are obliged to set up their own online PPI complaints handling tools. Some are already up and running (e.g. Lloyds Bank, Nationwide, HSBC, M&S Bank, Santander)

So, if you are considering using Resolver do have a scout around the relevant bank's website first. You may find they now have a near-identical tool of their own available for your use.

Brilliant - that's the most outrageous pitch for business I've heard of from a claims company!

It does underline just how low such companies will go, and how they try to drag honest consumers down to their level.

I have my experian report but it doesnt give me all the history for me to start contacting all the potential claims I cold make, any idea how I can find details from pre-2000?
This is so I can start to use the Resolver or contact the banks, etc. directly myself
(I didnt keep any paperwork once I had paid my accounts off).

    Cheers for any help/guidance
