Temporary house move and broadband connections

Hi everyone
Bit of background: I’m about to be seconded to a job down in London for 12 months, I have found a rental property down there where I will spend the majority of my time, however I will be coming back to my house in the Midlands (which I own) some weekends (I have decided not to rent it out as it’s only for 12 months. If that changes I will reassess). I live alone.
I have no idea which is the best option regarding broadband connection for the London flat. At my Midlands house I am currently 6 months into a discounted contract with BT for fibre broadband (Infinity 2). I could theoretically transfer that account down to the London flat, but that would cost me a £50 connection charge down there and would mean my line rental contract would reset to another 12 months. Therefore, in six months’ time, when my discounted fibre broadband runs out, I will still have 6 months of line rental contract left. I would be stuck with either the expensive standard BT rate, or having to take out a contract elsewhere to provide broadband, when I would possibly only have 6 months left to live in London – and would then have to go through the whole rigmarole again when I move back up North.
Or I could take out a whole new connection down in London and let the BT deal in the midlands expire after 6 months. I don’t really need internet up at the house in the Midlands, I won’t be there that often and could rely on my 4G through my mobile. But this would mean paying for 2 connections for the next 6 months…
I keep staring at all the figures and deals and can’t get my head around what would be the most cost-effective option. I need broadband in London as I will occasionally be working from home. Does anyone have any suggestions? Money is going to be tight, what with London rent prices!

for occasional broadband use in London possibly look at mifi

top up as needed , look at the data allowances , 10 - 20 gb should be ok for occasional working unless its involving video or picture editingEx forum ambassador

Sorry, I should probably have clarified that I will need the internet connection in London for general use (not just work, although that makes it a necessity) as it will be my main home for the next twelve months. I don't need particularly fast speeds but I do stream a lot of telly.

Usually, when you move home, the connection charge is waives but you start a new 12 month contract.
I suspect the first place to start is your current provider, ask them what your options are.
People move house every day, it's something they will be used to dealing with.0
