Tell them again the times you are there and they need to arrange those times.

Give them a time frame and failing after that, you will be charging storage costs.

FYI they deliver past 5pm, so quote them this,

On what basis can storage costs be charged?

One can only charge storage costs if the other party agrees to this contract amendment.

I cannot see the other party agreeing. Can you?

How much time and cost would it really be?

If you're thinking of claiming petrol, then presumably you have (access to) a car. Couldn't you just shove the box in the car next time you're going shopping, and just drop it off at one of their pick-up points?
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Awkward for the sake of it.

    Hi,

Unfortunately you don't have a legal stand point on this. You can not keep the items, as said before the extra package should have been reported straight. If this is in regards to a certain gaming component I also had the same happen I took both packages as the item I ordered was a bundle and I had assumed it came in 2 packages. As soon as I found out I called Currys and had it collected. They do their collections with DPD who can only collect between 9-5 Mondays to Fridays so Currys could do nothing to change that. DPD have a range of pick up shops available to use. They are the things they can offer so you have to find a way to do one of those unfortunately. If not you are legally responsible for this item as it was accepted and not reported by yourself and if it is not returned is counted as theft. You can speak to them about compensating for the inconvenience, but again your have no legal stand point to receive this. My advice is return the item as soon as possible.

You signed up just to say that?

The OP does not expect to keep it.

They just expect collection to fit around them due to someone else's error.

    Sounds reasonable to anyone.

OP, you will probably have to get it escalated to someone with authority to do something out of the oridinary. I expect the usual contacts are not able to do this and probably get marked down on escalated cases, so stick to your guns as it were.

Do you have a friend or neighbour who will be in for the 9-5 slot?

You are being more than reasonable.

    Don't ASK them, TELL them.

Write again, giving them options of:

    1. Collection after 7pm Monday to Friday
    2. Saturday/Sunday collection if a 4 hour delivery slot is provided.
    3. Delivery to collection point if they send you £X, which is 45p/mile for an X mile round trip and £10 for the inconvenience.

Point out it is their mistake and you are offering several reasonable solutions to return the item, so could they let you know which option is best.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Does it matter? Why should he have to spend one penny or go one step out of his way to fix their mistake? Especially when they are refusing to go out of their way to get it fixed.

Why don't you write to Curry's and say to them "Why can't you call at his house while he's in, how much time and cost would it really be for you?"
