Booked some cheap flights for Sepember for friend and I. It's for four nights.
Looking for somewhere to stay fairly close to Malaga itself but a resort iyswim, so mabye Benalmadea or Torromolonis?
I've never stayed in any of the resorts close to Malaga before, but we have early flight back and don't want a long transfer.
We are looking for an apartment close to shops, restaurants beach etc. A pool would be great!
Got to be fairy cheap and cheerful. Just want a nice few chilled out days without breaking the bank.
Any reccomendations?

Ronda is incredible, so long as you don't need to be beside the sea.
Torremolinos is ghastly, but a good place to find fish and chips.0 -
Have your heard of AirBnB?
How can we know what is cheap and cheerful for you?
This cheap? https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/7414453
You didn't even post any dates...

For a four day trip I would not bother going to the resorts at all.
Stay in Malaga city, it is fantastic! A great beach, hundreds of restaurants, bars, tapas. Fabulous shopping around Calle Larios. The port area has been totally refurbished and is great for walking around.
Just my ten cents.
Oh and the bus to and from the airport/city centre is around a euro and is a short transfer.0 -

Ronda is over an hour away though and inland!
Looking for somewhere within half an hour of Malaga airport. Not looking for culture or history on this occasion, but somewhere with nice beaches and restaurants to chill out for a few days.
Don't intend to move very far from my sun lounger:D0 -
The train from the airport to Torremolinos takes nine minutes and is 1.80€

I don't know of any cheap and cheerful places close to the beach in Malaga. You could just as easily stay in a resort close to the beach and pop into Malaga for a day trip. Malaga City is no closer to the airport than Torremolinos.0 -

Was in Malaga city itself earlier in the year. Didn't like it much as a city TBH. Don't think it can hold a candle to Madrid or Barcelona, or even Palma! I'll be sticking to Malaga as a place I fly into and out of from now on:)
Thanks for info about the bus.0 -
I agree with melanzana that Malaga town is an ideal place to stay. It's a beautiful, very walkable city, which is often overlooked by people in a rush to get to the main beach resorts. It might take a little time to grow on you, but getting the homework right will help.
There's a frequent train from the Airport into Malaga, and also west to the beach resorts. It takes about 10 minutes to Malaga and costs €1.80 from a machine by the escalator down to the platforms.
We were staying Nerja, which is one of the lovely White Towns about 35 miles east of Malaga a couple of months ago. Our flight back to LGW was at 1020 and decided to stay close to Malaga Airport for our final couple of nights. We stayed at the Royal Costa Hotel at Los Alamos...

The hotel is a 2 minute walk from Los Alamos train station, which is only two stops [7 minutes] from the Airport going west. Ideal for a morning flight, and commuting into Malaga. But if we did it again we'd choose somewhere to stay in Malaga town.0 -

Have a look at Torre del Mar as well...

It's east of Malaga, but a lot closer than Nerja. Only went there for the day, but instantly fell for it.....a working town where tourism seems to blend in seamlessly, and with a beautiful wide beach, promenade, and shaded gardens running parallel. Lots of places to eat and drink, and pedestrianised shopping on the flat.0
